2012 predictions

He kept Hamilton behind once he was infront in Oz though, to be fair.

It's Vettel's ability to prevent the car behind from entering that DRS zone which puzzles me.

Even in the last race, as good as Alonso is, he couldn't prevent Perez from entering the zone and using DRS. With Vettel - he has an uncanny ability to prevent the car behind from engaging DRS against him. Hopefully we shall see this happen later this year and we may see Vettel forced into some hard defending.

Note: I fully expect Vettel to do some VERY hard defending, verging on illegal. If he doesn't, I'm not sure if he is cut out to take over from MSc. To be the absolute best you have to be absolutely ruthless (Senna and MSC are good examples) and I'm pretty confident that he can be this. We just have to see it in practise.

Interesting sunama is going with a Marussia one... I'd make you have a Rosberg one :D

If Marussia can finish on zero points.
He could have a sig along the lines of :

Marussia
Simply the best

I'm sure that his sig would get plenty of questions from forumites. ;)

Actually, I do love Britney.
Well...not love, but she is probably my fave female artist.
Rosberg isnt a bad driver. Not great...just good.

3 hours in the shower washing your hair 3 times and re-soaping multiple times, Britney fan.

My gaydar needs a re-tune. It's only this last few weeks all the pieces have fallen into place

Definitely.

He beat Hamilton in the first race of the season, in a slower car.
He was hounding Hamilton again in the last race, until he made his error.

For me, only Alonso is currently a better driver than Vettel.

At age 24, Alonso, nor MSc were as good.

Vettel is definitely ahead of the curve, compared with MSc and Alonso and these 2 drivers have basically been the standard since 1994 (ie. the last 18 years).

still lost a lot of credit for the un-necessary rant at the end of the race

He MAYBE a better driver (and Im not convinced), but he isnt an alround better team member

I've never said that Vettel is a nice guy or best friend material. If I am looking for a nice guy to be best friends with, there are plenty of people who I work with who have great personalities and charm.

I have only ever stated that if you need a driver to score you points in the WDC and WCC (and that is what ultimately counts), Vettel is brilliant.

Senna had plenty of rants and many rate him as the best driver of all time. If it's ok for him, surely, it must be ok for Vettel. Right?

Going backwards, how many of the previous recent WDC winners would you have considered 'nice guys' at the time?

Vettel - Yep
Button - Yep
Hamilton - Hmm... probubly not
Kimi - Who could tell? But probably not
Alonso - No
Schumacher - No
Hakkinen - Hmmm... nope
Villeneuve - Nope
Hill - Maybe

Then your to far back for me to actually remember what I thought of the drivers.

Being a nice guy does not seem to be a requirement of being a WDC. Infact, when you start to look at who you do consider to be a 'nice guy' in F1 you start to list a lot of people who haven't achieved that much (Rubens, Chandhok, Davidson, Sato, etc).

The ruthless nature required to be WDC seems to take over any sense of being a 'nice guy' to the extent that they almost seem exclusive of each other.

I think Button is probably the only genuinely nice guy, who over the past few years, has won the title.

The problem with being successful is the ruthless nature of the job.
You have to be single minded and have the will to beat those around you, make them look bad and possibly put them out of a job.

These days, MSc is coming over a nice guy. However, I wonder if he were to get his mojo back and become top dog, as he once was, would he be so gracious or would he do what he did in his 1st career and attempt to run his closest competitors off the road, in an effort to win the title?

Button is a nice guy now, but hasn't always been in the opinions of many. He's certainly matured a lot thanks to his seasons with BAR/Honda.

It's difficult to judge though. Schumacher was ruthless on track, but he was probably a nice guy in general.

One public example is him donating half a year's salary to tsunami victims a good few years back. Regardless of how much you earn, that's still a lot to give away.

When we are talking about nice guys. We are talking in strict relation to F1.

For instance, Vettel talking about another driver, and using the term "idiot".
MSc bumping other drivers off the track, if they had a chance to win the title.
MSc parking his car in the middle of the track to prevent any other driver qualifying and getting pole.
Hamilton referring to other drivers as "monkeys".
Senna ranting and raving about how the FIA (and in particular, the FIA president), was there, purely to prevent Senna from winning.
Prost ranting and raving about how he was treated at McLaren.
...etc etc

I'm sure that the above drivers are all affable guys in private. But when it comes to racing (their profession), they can often behave completely differently.

schumacher does loads of charity stuff but he likes to keep it under the radar just as he does his family life.
on track he raced hard off track he had a different reputation with everyone he worked with and theres hundreds of little snippets about him giving the time of day and beeing interested in even the lowest members of the team.

im sure many people see it as stratergy to get the team on your side but i think its more than that as he was always #1 at ferrari anyway no matter what

Michael was brilliant at giving some back to the team members, taking them all out to dinner on him etc, does lot's for charity as well and as said by all accounts a very nice person off the track.
