2012

Damm , why does Roland Emmerich waste such amazing effects on blatently obvious wooden acting and god awful script, far too long as well, bum hurts, eyes hurt, ears hurt, dont feel robbed but wish intelligence and effects would line up every so often.

Sandra Noble, executive director of the Mesoamerican research organization FAMSI, notes that "for the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle". She considers the portrayal of December 2012 as a doomsday or cosmic-shift event to be "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in."

She appers to have been right!

Mayans: Please Stop Saying the World Will End in 2012

"I came back from England last year and man, they had me fed up with this stuff," said Apolinario Chile Pixtun, a Mayan Indian elder who insists that the doomsday scenarios come not from his culture, but from Western ideas.

David Stuart, a Mayan specialist at the University of Texas at Austin, added that the Mayans "never said the world is going to end, they never said anything bad would happen necessarily." That hasn't stopped talk of the Earth's poles shifting, etc.

Scientists say the most drastic change to the Earth's magnetic poles would be a one-degree shift that would take place over a million-year time span. There's also no indication that such a shift would begin in 2012.

Just watched this with my daughter - what a load of crap.

I was expecting a great story, the plot was disgraceful, with far too many sickening 'Isn't America great?' type aspects.

The movie was also all about the special effects, which, whilst spectacular, do not make compelling viewing.

Very, very disappointed.

As a fan of disaster movies, I couldn't even finish my review on it without getting angry. I simply ended my conclusion with "2012 is an insult to the disaster genre, and pretty much anyone with a brain". Something like that anyway.

It was just laughably stupid and comical to watch. I thought The Transporter had stupid physics and stunts but this was bordering on comical - especially when I love the directors previous films.

The nuclear explosion of Yellowstone Park though - that was the only highlight for me. I'll still get it on blu-ray though because I could barely focus on the film towards the end because my brain had gone into meltdown.

Is it me or does the last 45mins felt like they ran out of budget, dodgy camera works and pretty poor studio setup (when in ship e.t.c.)?

 8/10...honestly this would barely rate a 1...and that 1 would be for the effects. What made this film shockingly poor in my opinion was a number of things: Spoilers below
1: Just how much they felt like insulting the viewers intellegence.
2: The repeated scenes of unrealistically collapsing ground - drive car or camper successfully ramping uneven ground.
3: The repeated scenes of unrealistically collapsing ground - take someone with 2-3 lessons in flying a plane, get them to fly multiple planes and not once let him actually think instead of flying above all of these collapsing buildings have him fly low constantly & go between the falling buildings avoiding all wreckage
4: The endless cliches, worst of them being something predicted about 2 mins into the film - Sistine Chapel - why oh why oh why must the crack always go between the fingers of the painting on the ceiling...again see point 1.
5: The bloody dog being the only one who thought to (having heard a whistle over the sound of an angry mob & engines of an ark) cross from the harbour to the ark across the one thing connecting the two & get to safety...again point 1.
6: The woeful acting
7: The utter predictability of the film
8: It being pointlessly long with the additional 'problem with the ark'.

And so on.

2012% agree with all your points there. I actually enjoyed the day after tomorrow and knew exactly what to expect from this film - but I was still appauled at the stupidity.

My personal favourite plot hole was the old white guy in the jazz band

"Nah I dont talk to my son......he married a japanese"

and then no other mention as to why this is a bad thing? hes obviously not racist because....well youll see when you watch the film. Why could emmerich just make him a typical homophobic old white man instead and make the story a LITTLE bit more believable?

ARGH

Rather enjoyed the film imo. Nice effects which is why i like natural disaster films the plot which was very loose was ok, didnt have to be amazing just something to help the plot flow through the events.
