2013 Haswell Retina MacBook Pro...

Agreed on the weight part, the 15" is hardly a heavyweight. I chose to go 13" due to it being able to fit in my camera bag, which the 15" would not have. Also the screen real estate isn't an issue at home, where I have a 24" monitor to plug it into, giving me 2 screens.

Just ordered one of these babies :).

In the past, I've used the Speck hard-shell cases (the SeeThru series) and they scratched the MacBook Pro. Is this still the case?

I am also/instead looking at a skin, which covers the sides, top, bottom of the MacBook Pro but there don't seem to be any in the UK?

Just got a Bodyguardsz UltraTough® Clear Skins Bottom Only for my retina 13" which includes side film. Shipped from US and not particularly cheap but well worth the money. Also have a Bodyguardz on the back of my iPad Air.

Anyone else using RDM? My 13" is now running 2048x1280 which is a great balance for work, but strains the already crap Iris graphics for gaming :(

Got a 15" rMBP on Sat and its bloody lovely.

Replaced my XPS 13 which is just a little too small for my aging eyesight.

Its not quite as light & small as the Dell but with the added build quality and screen - its certainly worth it.

I need to get myself an external monitor. I love my 15" rMBP, but I need the screen real estate for work.

I know the Thunderbolt displays haven't been updated in ages and there's rumours of a 4K screen, etc. But is there really any better alternative to the cinema display to dock my rMBP when working from home?

I've got the Thunderbolt Display and I really like it - two cables and I've got power and peripherals (connected to TBD) all set-up. Makes for a very tidy desk.

However, have a look at the Dell monitors if you want extra connectivity options in your monitor.

Dell 27" 1440p display + something like a CalDigit Thunderbolt Station would get my vote. I've been thinking about getting one myself....figured I'd get a new monitor first!

Gigabit Ethernet, 3x USB 3.0, Audio I/O, Thunderbolt daisy chain (no video though) and HDMI for display.

The only advantages of an Apple Thunderbolt Display would be the included MagSafe connection and ability to daisy chain another display*

Thanks guys.

Not bothered about additional connectivity as it'd be solely for use with my rMBP. I like the idea of using the monitor as a docking station where my mouse, keyboard, etc. are all set up, just plug in and go.

I'm just a bit wary to drop £750 (or whatever the HE price of a TBD is) on a monitor that will get updated next month or something :p

That's what convinced me, I've got a much neater desk as a result:

No one can be sure if/when Apple will update the display. I've been hearing rumours about an update since I bought mine in Dec 2011.
