2013 - Morba's Cake fed Strongman Log.

I do like it, but then it's all triceps which I'm happy with lol.
Worst bit is the clean as rolling 120kg+ up your body as your laying down just squeezes all air out of you lol

Gonna do it a lot more as I think it will have fantastic carryover for other pressing events.

That's what's annoyed me about the block tbh, I know its not been a strength thing, just a bit of technique that's all :)

Overhead session:

strict day, knee hurting so took knee out of the equation.

First rep cleaned from floor, full clean to rack position, with axle. None of this gayness using the rack :p

40kg lots
60x20
60x10
70x10
80x5
80x5
90x3
95x3
100x2
105x1 PB
80x10
90x5
95x3

incline log
70x10
90x8
110x5
120x3
130xf - clearly my 140 from the other day was a fresh thing lol, expected this tbh.
120x3
110x5
110x5

Thoughts:
Strict is looking good, progressing nicely which shows my assistance work is doing its job. However it shows how glaringly bad my legs in push press, I'm getting less than 10% extra from using my legs. That is PATHETIC!

Happy with my cleans, much prefer the axle with normal tyres on as it sits closer to the floor which I like :)
Oddly, considering I am the least powerful at the moment, I was the only one who was able to full clean 100+. I took great joy in making the rest realise this :p

Good session. Things work nicer when my legs aren't involved lol.

Deadlifts:

Got to gym, warmed up, got called out by work.
Go home, log on, see they've called the wrong team out.
Go to gym, warm up again. Running out of time. Great.

2x warmups
60x10
110x10
110x5
160x5
180x5
200x3
Add belt and straps
200x3
220x3
230x3
240x2 - 2013 PB for reps (242kg as 22kg bar) nice easy fast reps.
250xf - started to lift and my knee screamed at me. Hadn't put neoprenes on all night and it was cold. Silly mistake as the small amount of stability they give really helps.
250xf - nope, knee no likey. The pain causes me to lose core stability (because it makes me release tension by wanting to scream lol).

110+red bands x 5. Had someone stood on band as we couldn't find a better way to secure it. Pulled first rep so fast it lifted him off the floor!

GHRs
7x5

Thoughts.
Stupid mistake forgetting to put my neoprenes on, felt strong and 240s were easy. Wanted 250 and an attempt at 260 tonight.
Ah well.
GHRs felt good :)

Ah not liking this feeling this morning. I know I could have pulled more and am annoyed with myself for forgetting a simple thing.

On a plus note, I had a little cramp in my belly yesterday before the workout. It had no affect at all and didn't notice it again.

Events session.

Just a quick one, cold and had stuff to do.

Overhead medley:

53kg circus DB
90kg block of doom
95kg apollons axle
100k log

4 runs, 2 timed.
53 secs
42 secs

2nd run would have been faster if someone moved the DB from the mat for me and didn't mess with the stop watch (I thought he stopped it)!

Uphill sled arm over arm 10metres.

Wheel barrow with no wheels with 2x40kg kettlebells and a 120kg atlas stone.
Up hill and on gym mats so the resistance was insane!
18s each of the 3 runs.
Can see where I am making a few mistakes, so will get that under 15s with some more trying :)

Yeah we tried anchoring them on 45kg DBs and they just lifted off the floor.
Gonna try a few things next time to get it right though.
That's the annoying thing about swapping a power cage for squat stands. You gain space in the gym but lose the greatness that comes from a multi use power cage!

I find the best place for chains is just outside your grip. It can be a pain, but having them land on your feet is better than under the plates.

Also helps to have a smaller "link" chain to attach to the bar.

Yeah I thought that too, we only have links that go over the bar not come loose to clip on else where so would need to drop all the weight off and put it back on.

Having them outside the plates just mean they fall under the plates which is annoying haha

Overhead session.
Log tonight, I prefer log to axle!

Thoughts
I've been rolling and stretching my legs ready for the session and my knees were clearly happy with it. Felt good all day and said to myself earlier that I'm gonna get 120kg no matter how many times it takes.

Strict felt light, initial push presses were lacking leg drive, think this was due to not wanting to hurt them lol.

My cleans were significantly better, less looking like a log curl and had some explosion to them. Very happy with this.

What really helped was having one of the other people I train with do the same thing. We were going rep for rep (other than strict as he's significantly weaker strict). So the atmosphere in the unit was great. Both of us got 115x2 and knew we had to try 120. He got 120 first go putting the pressure on, then I did the same :D
The 2 others also pb'd, one getting 120kg log strict (awesome!) and the other getting 100kg log strict :D

Squats and incline pressing of some kind

Warm ups, knee not feeling good.

bar x lots
40xlots
60x10 - umm, hmm. feels not good
100x5 - nope, not liking that at all
60x5 - 3 sec pause at bottom to stretch
60x5 - 3 secs pause
100xf - nope, knee is not happy with me at all today.

Squats binned. Not good

incline log
70xlots
90x10
110x10
120x5
130x3
140x1 - nearly failed as left tricep almost died on me.
120x5
120x5
120x5

Thoughts.
Well, the downside to my knees being good on a pressing session is that they hurt me for the next few days. Normally squats help my knee, but thats only if i can get down to depth without significant pain. Today, the drop to depth was horrific, so much pain :(

incline log - only a quick pressing session to make myself feel a little better, happy with that tbh.

Rest till sat now, we have a few people from other gyms coming to join us for an atlas stone day. I'm hoping to get the 160 stone to the lowest platform for a PB, just gotta hope my knee allows me to lift as it's going to be the right atmosphere for lifting heavy!

stones we have to play with:
80kg
2x105kg
2x120kg
140kg
150kg
160kg (want this one)
180kg - our newest stone (if I get the 160 I'll have no choice but to try it lol)
197kg
205kg

!!

Stone day:

Warm ups
105 to lowest platform x 3
120 to lowest x 2
140 to lowest
160 x f,f,f,f
150 to lowest PB

Stone run:
85kg to above head height
105kg to 3" lower
105 to 3" lower again
120kg to 3" lower
140kg to bottom platform

57 seconds.

160xf - FFS!!!
120x2
140x2

Done.

Need to get stronger, lots.

Yeah, we have the 180 now so a big jump from the 160 but less than the 195 we have lol.
No one got the 180 yesterday so I'm not far behind the others lol.

160 is my target for summer, so 3 months more training and I'll be repping it and beating my target :)

Oddly I left the gym thinking I could easily give up the strongman stuff. Not getting the 160, being bloody slow on the run (the others were all around or just under 30secs!!) and generally being weak really demotivated me.

Thankfully I have my log and my targets and regardless of feeling bad I can see that I am progressing. I am moving forwards even of its not as fast as i'd like!

Yeah, that is true. It wasn't that hard either, which is what annoyed me most about the 160. I should have been able to grind out 10kg heavier given how well the 150 went lol

Ah well, if things are improving then progression is happening. That's what matters most, when things go backwards with no specific reason I'll really start to be worried :)

I love the attitude of strength sport people.

"FOR ****S SAKE I WANT THAT WEIGHT"

"Sure, but didn't you just PB?"

"YES BUT I WANT MOAR!"

:D

If the 150 was easy there are probably just a few minor tweaks to be made. I'm sure you'll crack it.

Yep, when you don't want more, or faster, or some form of better it's time to give up :D

Thanks :)

It seriously is something completely different. 150kg barbell is lightweight, but 150 stone, even just to lap it, is a completely different feel to it. It's like it might as well be 250kg in the hands lol.
Then to go from lap, to standing with it and pulling it up high enough to get over the edge of platform is lie nothing else in the whole world of lifting lol.

It's a full body work out on its own :D
