What Bernie said was interesting, saying they're not bad in the flesh.

I personally like what you can here. However update the recording technology a bit and I think many more people will be fine with it.
Directional mics and a slight play with volumes in the processing.
It also sounded like the more expensive stadiums were designed in a way to lower the engine noise. Which obviously now is not wanted.

Although the people who say they can't here the engine on TV, need to get a grip and stop lying. It doesn't help your argument speaking such rubbish.

They have bumped the volume this weekend on the TV feed.

I like them, ok they will never sound as nice as the V12/V10/V8 days but that is life.

Apparently it was brought in partly to appear greener but more importantly to retain engine manufacturers and encourage new ones to the sport.

Renault had threatened to quit as they could see little commercial value in developing V8's. They want to learn from the sport and eventually filter technology down to road cars, I am all for that.

We are down to just 3 manufacturers now, if Renault had pulled out your in the dangerous situation of 2.

I would rather not go back to the days when there are works engines for their own teams and stock supplied to everyone else. Ferrari and Mercedes could quite easily have dictated the future.

That's exactly the reason, although it was originally inline 4s that were proposed.

Honda, BMW, and Toyota all jumped ship. Renault left as a team and were going to leave as an engine manufacturer too if nothing changed. Cosworth were also leaving. It would have been Ferrari and Mercedes, at most.

The V6s have saved us from 2 makers and left us with 4 once Honda come back. The I4 had interest from VAG and a number of other Japanese makers too, but that fizzled out when they changed it to V6. However I can't see Toyota wanting to let Honda hog the Japanese representative hat alone for long, so maybe the will come back too?

Its a means to an ends, the ends being stopping F1 vanishing.

Sounded a bit better to me during Qually this morning & I'm quite getting into the Whoosh on lift off as well. I don't know whether it was me having the Telly louder or the broadcast being louder but it did sound better to me than tuther week.
Obviously I would still prefer a Roar/Burble/Blat but just saying it weren't as bad as last week. :)

Apparently they are going to try and fiddle with the noise for the TV viewers. Makes sense, it does need to be louder. Couldn't hear anything in practice today..

I'm sure that could be pretty easy to do, where the car sound feed into the main amp, just turn up that feed. I presume..

It's taken them this long?

Well that's that for me, Praccy may have sounded a bit better but the race sounded dogs *****.
I've watched F1 since before Hunt the Shunt & today was the first time I have ever turned a race off. 20 Laps to go my fave driver leading the race & I switched off. That's it for me I am voting with my feet, They have completely ruined it for me.
Listening to a couple of hours of commentators rattling on is not my idea of fun, You could tell how desperate they were getting when DC made that stupid remark about Box Box Box.
I just cannot bare it any longer, **** them for ruining a sport I love **** them all & anybody else that thinks this new noise is in any way good/better.
**** them all.

Almost seems as if for some people, they aren't/weren't interested in the racing (understandable in the last few years I suppose), merely the noise of the cars?

The racing is the racing, the drivers are the drivers, I honestly don't see that them being noisier would suddenly make the last two races twenty times better than what they were?

This . . . just wow.

I've been a fan of F1 for many years. Never has the noise been a big part of it. It wasn't a big part of it when I went to see F1 at Silverstone in '97. And I shall be going to Silverstone this year too.

It's not a big part of it, but it is a part of it. I doubt if they ran electric cars completely but still at 180mph and the racing was the same but in silence you would still not care.

It's part of the show.
