2016/17 Pre-season Friendly Thread

The game against Mainz is just SO unneccesary. 2 games (1 against Barcelona) , in under 24 hours, in 2 different countries, 1 week before the season starts.

Just plain stupid.

Not watching the game but it's now 4-0 and the quality of our defending is getting absolutely hammered by Sky and the BBC. Great for Matip's confidence

He has been carrying an injury to my knowledge which again is not a good start for him either. :( thus far seems klavan and lovren need to be starting. Why we still have wisdom no idea he has never been any good

I'm sure the fitness guru's know what they're doing :p

We pretty much played 2 different teams. A few players that didn't play the entire game yesterday played a few minutes today and vice versa. I don't think anybody played more than 90 minutes across the 2 games. It just allowed us to give minutes to the likes of Matip, Grujic, Henderson and Moreno, who've not played much in pre-season and also allowed Klopp to fine tune his starting 11 for the Arsenal game in the Barca match.

Did we just lose Gabriel for at least the short term? Looks like right at the end of the game his studs got caught in the ground and a City player went through him(both running same way) as Gabriel kind of stopped in front of him... he looks in a lot of pain. Screwed up ankle or knee?

It looked like one of those ACL type injuries, studs planted and knee twisted.

Could be a long one but hopefully not. We are left with Holding/Chambers. Or Nacho and Cambers.

He has to buy now!

Not sure if knee or ankle, but it looked bad.

I've got really high hopes for Iwobi this season, the kid can really finish. If he continues to progress like he did last season we could a reasonable player there. Just need to make sure that we don't weigh him down with too much expectation or ask him to play 50 games a season until he is a bit older.

Wonder if he could play on the right, I think he naturally a left winger but he is going to have to compete with Sanchez for that spot, if he can play on the right he'd only have to compete with Ox / whatever CM Wenger decides to play out of position.
