2016/17 Pre-season Friendly Thread

I dont think you can take much from that game for either side Clipsey. United were missing at least half their first XI and we have a new manager who has only had one other game, again missing a lot of players. Dortmund are mostly the same side that was playing last season and under the same manager.

Oh I know, just with now some of the ego's there and if/when they get Pogba, the only thing that will seem a success is winning the league.
Dortmund, have strengthened in the right areas, not sure how much of a hole Hummels will leave as their defense was solid last season.

I know it was only a friendly against Dortmund, but a 4-1 defeat is hiding you don't want your team to suffer. City, up next.

Actually doesnt matter a jot, especially with 1/2 the 1st team not even playing.

We thumped everyone in the 15-16 pre-season and look where we finished

Much prefer JM gets a good look at all the useless ***** in the squad now than in live EPL games.

Even just with one change (De Gea in goal) it would have been a lot closer.

Valencia , Jones and Rojo (two of which started) shouldnt be anywhere near the 1st team, they are just liabilities.

edit - there were rumours earlier in the week that the City game might be cancelled due to bad weather not sure if thats still the case

I agree in some regard to what you're saying, but success breeds confidence. And I'm sure Dortmund didn't field a full strength team neither.

After today I'm more convinced we should be buying a couple more players rather than pumping money into one mega signing

We need a DMC and a RB badly

If today was a "live" game that actually mattered then you may well be right, but win the first two or three EPL games will breed far more confidence than winning a game against a team Utd are highly unlikely to meet competitively next season

BD may not have fielded a full strength team, but Utd started with two players who haven't even got 90 minutes under their belt for Utd yet, another player that hasn't played for practically a year (Shaw), Jones who has only played a handful of games in that period and a gk who has never had a first team appearance - and that's just the defence.....

vs one of the deadliest strikers in Europe last season (with help obviously but even so)

Utd played terribly and deserved to lose, but its still completely meaningless with at least two or three pre-season games to go (depending on whether the City game happens or not)

edit - I would be very happy with a CM (even if its not Pogba) and a defender (Fabinho or a centre half) and that would be a very good window indeed although we are still weak in certain areas, depending on how JM wants to play (and against some teams) the weaknesses in the squad could be masked for a while. Its not about today's game, but there are glaring deficiencies in the squad.

couldn't agree more Frank

outside of Bailly and Smalling, our CB quality is horrendous and Valencia for me just isn't good enough to even be an understudy
