They are horrible.
I would save the £10
If you want a taster and have a Samsung Phone then go on ebay and buy a £79 - £100 Samsung VR. Thats as close to the rift / others your going to get for cheap.
You do realise that the Samsung VR is just a very expensive version of the google cardboard, it runs the same type of apps but costs 10 times the price.
you can't compare the experience with that, but soon most big stores will put sampling area for VR, because educating ppl about the product will be essential ifor VR, so you will get a chance to test it before hand, unless you live in a really remote place, and you never travel
Yes in 3 or 4 months time there might very well be demo sets in the stores and when they arrive I will have a go. I would most certainly have to test out something that was going to cost £500+.
Otherwise it would be like someone saying hey mate here's a diggerywhat you love it for sure, yours for only £500, er what does it do? You stick it on your head and it shows you stuff, don't worry most people don't get sick or nauseated by it, go on it only £500.
My mate has google cardboard and I watched the Titans of Space demo. It did a reasonably good job but in terms of DK2 comparison, not even close. It is a good way to see if you would be interested in VR though, so I wouldn't knock it.
It was about 7pm when I decided to look into this a bit more seriously, that started with downloading the google cardboard app on my note 3 and then just holding the phone in front of your face, put your hand vertically in front of your nose and bam there you go the cheapest version of VR. Ok yes it sucked but immediately I could see the potential and the pitfalls, for me I cannot focus on the screen until it is a certain distance away, its my eyesight that is bad and with my glasses it is even worse. So that is a major stumbling block, but even so I can see the potential, quick trip to a popular south American jungle and for £9.98 I have a plastic phone holder and harness arriving on Saturday. I chose this particular model because some of the reviews for it mentioned that its focus was a bit too far away than others they had tried, sounds perfect for me.
If it does a good enough job to really grab my attention, then I will look into the full VR experience, but if it doesn't work for me, then unfortunately VR wont be for me, and if necessary the phone holder can go back, so the whole experience will cost me a trip to the post office and couple of quid in postage.
I will post up my experience with it once I have tested it out.
