2016 : A Pivotal Year For AMD, Nvidia, PC Gaming And VR

Nah, we merely wish it did. Then again, he's entitled to his opinion but we're entitled to not care too :D ENTITLEMENT! \o/

CV1 being way overpriced might turn out to be a blessing in disguise for me, was well prepared to pre-order, but I might be better waiting till CV2 when we get some higher res ;D

I read some previews on CV1 and they range from resolution and text being sharp, to resolution is still too low to be consumer ready. I cannot expect that a resolution of 1080x1200 is going to be a massive improvement overall. Yes SDE may be eliminated but that was only part of the IQ problem.

When mine arrives I will be giving it a full and fair unbiased review like always. If it isn't much better than the DK2, I will be saying so.

"would be better with a green logo" :P
I'm looking forward to seeing reviews though, I might end up waiting for a second revision or pick one up ASAP depending on the reviews.
Wonder how long until we get .hack// (or for you newer kids, SAO) style headsets :O

Nvidia don't make the Rift and if you watch any of my hardware reviews, you will see that I am very fair and as honest as I can be. Nobody pays me and nobody sends me any hardware but even if they did, I would still remain impartial. There is a few reviews out of the CV1/Vive but I would tend to take them with a pinch of salt for now, as most seem to be "keeping friends".

I know nVidia don't make the rift - that was the joke, but nevermind :P

Yeah I'm waiting for actual consumer reviews - any reviews that come in now are likely to be a little biased, as you said "keeping friends". Still resisting the urge to preorder, then I see the price and it helps keep my urges in check ;D

All good :)

Apparently, select shops will have these from April (which will be harsh on those waiting for June/July delivery dates), so there will be plenty of reviews and if there is one close, you might get to have a play :)

So... apparently AMD users aren't being invited to take part in the EVE:Valyrie Alpha - someone put nvidia and got an invite and tried to load it up on his AMD 290 to find that it bluescreens.

So what happened to AMD being the preferred choice of VR game developers?

CCP have been partnered with Nvidia for as long as i can remember so no surprise there. It's only an Alpha so plenty of time to get it running properly on AMD. I read elsewhere that another guy got in and it ran fine once he managed to get in. Sounds like he was having problems getting it to run but once he did performance was fine.

"Sounds like a driver compatibility issue more than a performance one. The guy who PMed me said that once he was able to get in, it ran smooth."

Having to extrapolate from this post.

CCP trolls their own customers; completely fubared World of Darkness when they bought them and pretty much stole and mismanaged WoD mmo to the point of killing it.

So damn glad WoD was sold and they've reformed. Screw CCP - they can burn for all I care.

I thought it was a Dev.. or maybe Oculus? said that... Can't recall tbh, pretty sure it wasn't AMD though

It was mainly users on this board. They based it off this quote from David Kanter who was in turn (allegedly) quoting Oculus devs regarding preemptive context switching on nvidia cards - what it means is that game devs just have to bear it in mind for optimisation, the AMD crowd took it as read that it meant that everything VR would run like utter rubbish on Nvidia, which is clearly not the case.

People on here also took the news that "Alienware partnering with AMD on VR Ready machines" to mean that only AMD would be an option on Alienware VR machines... but now the Alienware VR Ready pages are up the default option is a GTX970 and there aren't even any AMD options listed at all.
