2016 : A Pivotal Year For AMD, Nvidia, PC Gaming And VR

ok this is just a rumor and not confirmed, but that's the price i expect a consol VR be at, and honestly i would be surprised if it's higher, and the fact that sony would support it even for their next console would suggest heavy subsidizing, so 300$ for the console and 300$ for the headset, 150$ for the accessories, for a total for 750$ that would make it a mainstream product, better than 2-2.5k$ of the PC solution.

I've been saying this for while full package VR 450 - PS4 400; put it at 850 - but this is even less.....with the amount rapidly closing on 40 million ps4s out there - PS4 will own VR.

Rift didn't need to priced at 500; but they wanted to make money so that's how that ended up; Hive we'll see where the price falls on it; honestly I could see it come in cheaper than Rift to steal customers.

So Far the big winner Sony specially if they price headset at that price; that is the game changer price we need

"Asynchronous reprojection" just sounds like interpolation.

How will that look in VR? At best it's a mixed bag on a normal screen.

Everyone I've talked to - said project morphious VR was better than anything that was out there; that included dk1 and dk2; PSR won't be doing all the lifting for VR they will have external graphical box to help. As long as the Latency is kept solidly low there shouldn't be any issues.

These PCs have been battle tested and certified by Oculus to deliver an incredible Rift experience. We’re also thrilled to announce that starting February 16 at 8am Pacific Time, you can pre-order Oculus Ready PC and Rift bundles

Five systems, two of configurable with either a 970 or a 980, AMD no where in sight...:o

easy to get exclusivity in this instance, bundles will be sold in few hundreds, or few thousands at best, beside oculus is trying to play the luxury card, makes sense to me.
i wouldn't take that as a failure from AMD's marketing team.

The fact that AMD have a direct link on their website to Nvidia PC's is a little bit "fail"

to put this in to perspective, this is a product that was released nearly 3 years ago - essentially they have now taken 3 years to release a patch so that the product now does what they said it would - they released video demos just like this 3 years ago - and in all of that 3 years there is still yet to be any kind of actual application that makes proper use of it

if you can actually now replicate their demo videos then ok at least that is progress... maybe in the next 3 years they might actually convince someone to release an app that makes use of it :D

Yeah believe me I never was a fan of Leap, conceptually however the idea of 1:1 finger/bone mapping with negligible latency is imho a crucial piece of "the puzzle". Just need something better than that awful "treadmill wok" for the walking part as well and we'd be close.

HTC Vive to ship on 1st April, price to be announced Monday

kitguru

i guess we will know very soon who won the bet on Vive price :D, i really hope it's like 399$, and like a month from shipping, this is going to be good , unless they slap us with 800$ headset.

That's super competitive given its a full vr solution with input controls...

I guess you missed the dozens of pages where people were saying the Vive was going to be cheaper (or at least the same price) with controllers included :D

I'll pass on the controllers anyway until proper games come out that use them, the tech demos masquerading as games don't look very interesting to me

I have absolutely no problem with the Vive's price, it was just funny watching people try to justify why they were so certain the Vive was going to be cheaper.

i think their plans changed along the way, and agreements were made, they see the PC market as not ready for VR Mainstream yet, and they left that market to the PS4, i still believe they make a large margin on the headsets, the only one subsidizing would be sony for their console.
that settles it for me, no Vive pre-order, maybe will wait till the summer or end of the year, after i get zen/polaris.

That works out at roughly £665 including tax. A bit cheaper than I expected truthfully but still quite pricey compared to the £500 Rift.

Depends on what the costs are for the Vive internationally, they could take a tiny hit from the margin and go for £649, also depends on shipping costs, will they sting us with high costs like the Rift who want £30 even though they have a distribution centre within the UK already.

It shouldn't be £749.

It's £670 (google exchange rate) including VAT.

So it's possible Valve/HTC may take a mild hit on exchange and do £649. Or it may be £699 max. But I don't see how they'd justify £749.

And at the end of the day, let's say £699, it's still quite reasonable considering the early-adopter premium and this is a full room-scale VR experience including VR controllers. Hell some 27" monitors are more than £699.

Also I'm woolly about what the 'full' price of the oculus rift will be. There's no price tag on their controllers yet, and their promo videos have them using 2 optical tracking cameras but the box comes with 1. So you may need to buy another camera with the controller to make it work properly. Those cameras are meant to be pretty high tech, so it could be another £150+ for the controllers and extra camera, who knows.
