With every new generation released they get closer to the big marques.
They will soon be dominating and everyone will be scrambling to get one.... like a Samsung TV.

With every new generation released they get closer in price to the big marques.

Whilst they are getting better in terms of build quality, and even in "niceness", I still don't know why you would buy a Kia vs any other brand.

E.g.
Kia Optima '2' 1.7Crdi - £21495
Ford Mondeo Zetec 1.5TDCi - £22895

In my head it would be the Mondeo every time

I imagine the generous warranty is a big plus. We've just bought a 2013 Sorento, and one of the attractions for me was that it still has half it's manufacturer warranty left, which tipped the scales in its favour when weighing up the competition, as I was after a car we could run and rely on for at least another 5 years or so and that gives me a little more peace of mind. I'm not bothered about the badge, but I am very pleased with it so far. I understand that might be less of a concern for new buyers though.

Hoping the Stinger is a success; looks a bold move to me, anyone else seeing a bit of Audi A7 and Jag XE in there?

KIA's have turned into rather excellent cars in the last few years. They just need to get over the lingering badge snobbery.

Having had 2 Kia's and a Skoda - I agree. None of the 3 cars gave me a moments problems.

Ran each car for 3 years, only one issue with the Kia that was handled superbly by Kia customer services (free courtesy car within 30 mins of the breakdown, superb updates on when car was fixed and even flowers for my wife who had to wait a whole 30 mins for the courtesy car to arrive!:D:D - they felt this was too long to wait)

Would have either again without hesitation. (currently got Sportage GT Line)

My mum's Kia Ceed was bought from new and has just passed the 7 year warranty stage which she never had to use. Apart from the obvious (tyres) it owes her nothing, it has been a solid car.

No one buys one of these cars new with cash though.
The lease costs for the above cars over 3 years put the Kia Optima £2k cheaper; also, it has more kit and as is 2 seconds quicker to 60mph (9.7 vs 11.7 for the Mondeo)

Still want the Mondeo ;)

It looks great and I commend them for making it. The brand has made huge strides in the last decade. I worked for them about 13 years ago and the difference between what they were selling then and making now is more like 50 years advance not 13! The only problem will be the price at about 45k it's going to be a tough sell against the established brands in this kind of segment.

Is that confirmed then, £45k? It really needs to be a top end of ~£30-35k for it to stand any chance at all.

^ yep
The Audi S4 is £44k and BMW 340i £41k which are the cars Kia is aiming to compete with.

The price isn't confirmed yet - speculation it will be in the £37k-£45k range.
