I started some this year for a change, first time in years. My office is really hot so hoping they do OK for once.
Cool thanks for the tips!I don't think the size matters too much, but the bigger the better to help them survive slug/snail attacks. A small chilli plant can be decimated overnight by a few slugs. I don't like the idea of using slug pellets on food plants, so it can be hard keeping them away. I tried copper wire and egg shells with some success, but still ended up having to pick a few off every day.
The main thing is to harden them off by placing them in a sheltered location outside for a few hours every day for a week or two, so they can get used to changing temperatures, full sun and breeze. Also might be a good idea to use a garden cane if they're a bit leggy.
If yours are small then it might just be that they need potting up. Mine shot up after I potted up into 3L pots from the size they were in the first picture i posted in this thread.
Re-potted mine into larger pots and had them outside each day when sunny, most seem to start to be bushing out, except a couple that are still really small and not showing a great deal of growth or bulking out. Anything i can do for these two runts?
I don't know what it is with the Aji Limon/ Lemon Drop chilli plants, but I always seem to have issues with the leaves turning yellow and falling off, or crisping up and going brown on the leaf tips.
Googling it suggests it could be too much fertiliser, but i don't think it's that as the other 4 plants are all fine. The Aji Limon grew much faster and larger than the other plants, so i'm thinking it could be lack of nutrients if anything. Anyone else had this issue with this particular chilli plant?
Just noticed on two of my chili plants on the kitchen windowsill. They have some little green fly on the leaves (look like green fly). I have read a spray bottle of water and a dash of washing up liquid can help eradicate them.
Any views on this ?
My little plants have a big aphid issue.
After spraying with a bug killer there still happy so I suspect they're resistant - leading to me trying a ladybird from the garden.. only for the ladybird to die after two aphids..
I think I may need to give them a 10 minute immersion in a bucket to kill off the aphids.
what do you mean by 10 minute immersion?
i don't have aphids but some sort of small tiny fly. might be midgies we get up here in scotland. killed literally about 50 of them on the window over the past 3 days.
should i get this stuff?
RoseClear Ultra Gun! Spray, 1 L
There's a Veg clear which is designed for eating veggies.. I have tried that but some aphids are resistant.. it also kills kadybirds. Better get some predators![]()
i genuinely don't see the point of the really hot ones. what do you guys do with them?
like i've seen stuff where they say. stick 1 drop of this stuff into a stew, etc. like what is the point? why not stick a whole chilli in of something less hot?
