2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers & Internationals ** Spoilers ** [9th - 13th June 2017]

That's why he had a wall though, to protect the side of the goal he wouldn't be able to cover. They were good free kicks and I'm not just saying that because I support the team Griffiths plays for. For the record, I prefer Dembele to play when they're both fit.
As a goal keeper myself I know you use the wall but you use the wall to protect the furthest reaches of the one side and you stand just off Centre of the other. He was practically on the opposite post and gave himself to much to do. It was almost like inviting him to hit it there. When the wall fails to work your going to get caught out all to easily. Amateur stuff for a guy that professional.

Played in goal myself as well for 15 years (shoulder injuries have caught up with me). When I watched it I was thinking to myself that he's giving himself loads to do if it's a half decent free kick. He ends up having to dive so early with both free kicks as a result. So frustrating to watch.

The wall didnt fail - surely you have to credit the strike for the amount of lift and dip in this particular case?

(gk's placement is another matter entirely - but I would still suggest the wall didnt fail in either free kick)

I assume he means when the wall gets beaten which is always a possibility, Hart's positioning was such that he was inviting the taker to beat the wall and go for that corner and yet he was so far towards the other side of the goal that he wouldn't have been able to save anything in that corner. The wall is meant to be a deterrent as much as a physical barrier, if he sets it up and stands more centrally not only does the taker have to beat the wall in going for that corner but the keeper as well. In this case he only needed to beat the wall and get it in the corner and Hart was a spectator and there was no point in going the other side because Hart would have hardly had to move to make a save.

Exactly what I mean, put much better than how I could. :D The only thing I can assume he was doing, was trying to see the ball. He may not have been able to see it past the tall defence, but none the less, still something he should have practiced.

France XI: Lloris, Sidibe, Varane, Umtiti, Mendy, Dembele, Pogba, Kante, Lemar, Mbappe, Giroud.

England XI: Heaton, Trippier, Jones, Cahill, Bertrand, Stones, Dier, Sterling, Alli, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kane.

Dembele should have just put his laces through that.

Essentially France will be just pace abusing in the WC. Lemar, Mbappe, Dembele and Griezmann surely needs to be a rule against that.
