2019 Chilli Growing thread

Would you use a quadgrow indoors or is there a chance of leaks / spillage?
Its meant for indoors really, like a greenhouse/polly tunnel/conservatory etc, no chance of leaks, there are overflow holes, so you dont over fill, but just stop a few millimetres from them anyhow, reason you want them undercover really, is so the nutes dont get diluted if it rains etc, and outside the plants get so massive, that wind would damage them anyhow.

Nice haul mate, picked a few yesterday myself.

^ That's impressive Daytrader

Picked another 5 Habaneros, 4 Reapers and 23 Ghosts today but the plants have started to grow again due to the poor light and the fruit aren't ripening as quick due to the drop in temperature.

Don't have electricity in my Greenhouse but considered a paraffin heater? Any good or are there alternatives?

Cheers, yeh my plants have started growing again, i dont want that, as i have 100's chillis still to ripen, i wont bother with heater myself, will just keep in polly until end october, early november, and see what i get.

13 at night 18/20 day, ive had chillis carry on ripen to even december before, plant wont die until 0c, usually i call it a day in tunnel when temp gets to like 8/10c thou, then just bring plant indoors if you can, to try and finish ripening your green pods.

Made another Jambalaya with the two biggest Ghosts I picked yesterday and while it was extremely hot it had nothing on the Jambalaya I made with the two tiny Reapers a few weeks ago. The heat hits you a few mouthfuls in and the taste, during and after each bite, is amazing but it doesn't get anywhere near the point of having to stop eating to down milk like it did with the Reapers.

I'm now glad no one volunteered to eat one when I took peppers to work, they're brutal and I'm now not sure what to do with the monsters that are ripening :D

Yeh when i grew 7pot one year, i could not eat them raw, i just made into flakes, and added into chilli con carni, still really hot depending on how many flakes i used.

Disappointingly my Jalos are not hot at all, so I've got them on very little water to see if it improves. I think I kept them too well!
Yeh really annoying that is, i grew some Cherry Bombs this year i got from ebay, and one of the plants had zero heat, so i did not give water for a week, as to stress it, but made no difference, still zero heat.

maybe stop feeding them nutrients for a bit too. i only give mine nutrients once a month. water once a week and a small dribble per plant.

if i see leaves drooping i re-water.

Yeah I guess I got carried away. :( Another week or so and I'll harvest the lot regardless.

I might try growing something different next year. What is the hottest and easiest to grow?

you have to remember chilli plants natural habitat is likely to be hot, dry and not so nutrient rich. it will be natural nutrients from dead animals, rainwater, animal droppings, etc. not a consistent amount 2 times a week. it will be sporadic.

the hotter the chilli the harder to grow I'd imagine. I can't get anything really hot to flower up here in Scotland. Plants grow well but very little buds and the ones that do flower don't give anything.

Hot and dry is definitely not the north east :D
