You for real?

I dont want this to be a personal attack but your posts kind of suggest you are at the 100k bracket and annoyed that things like your mortgage will increase by a fair amount and feel hard done by. Regardless of if thats the case some of your comments are very out of touch with the "common worker"
Yea @Bouton Aide i had to look for a property a bit further away and on a property that needs modernisation as even that area, all the properties that were readyto move were recieving over 20 offers from just a weekends viewing.....
@Zenduri The point is that people on or thereabouts 100k aint cosey and relaxing and ejoying life smoking cigars all day whilst getting a 5 star massage and then after, being driven home in there ferrari's

No i read your other posts.

Am i right through with my assumption? not that it matters.
Not really no. What I am cross about is a stealth tax at £100k till you hit £125k. And then the government saying to simplify the system they'll abolish the 45% rate for those earning serious money.

Interesting discussion but what do you all want?
stop moving the goal posts because today its 100k people needing to make some cuts and tomorrow its 200k earners having to make the cuts while peoples salary doesnt increase etc.

O and stop voting for the tories and labour. Thats a start....

And the irony is that those here on 100k telling people here that cut backs etc are real for people on that wages dont realize how it make people who are on 25k more and more inclined to be on the streets as not only does the goal posts move on the top earners but guess what? It also moves the goal posts for the low earners....

Now imagine if you can own your own property at a combined wage of 50k ? What a world we would live in right? Then thos eon 25k would be living a similar ish life to those on 100k today.

But noo lets bash and hate on the 100k people labeling them greedy tax dodging people instead of looking at the wider picture!!

Your still doing alright for yourself though aren’t you? You moved from a 400k house to a 800k house didn’t you? You could always reverse that and save some pennies I guess.

Did i ever claim people on 100k are getting soapy handjobs and paddeling the poor? No, my comments on this so far has been people on 100k arent struggling to eat or heat or provide a roof over their head. They can afford all of that but to what lifestyle level is another matter. Downsizing, moving, cutting back on luxary spending is all easily possible on 100k a year but its not possible for someone on NMW.

I go back to my original statement, people on 100k arent struggling, its their desired or aspired lifestyle which would struggle.

There is a lot more mobility on that income than there is at 20k for example. The arguement that someone on 20k can just work overtime whereas someone over 100k cant as they get taxed out the balls is pointless since business' have cut back hard on overtime being available and even if someone on 20k earns 10k extra from overtime they have sacrificed a lot of additional time to do so and are STILL less mobile financially than someone on 100k

Dont think for a second that this is just a "LONDON" problem.

This is a huge part of the problem. House prices in or near London are 3x elsewhere (for a normal house).

People could find much cheaper houses elsewhere, but people want to be near London because that's where the money is. Which is fine - but you'll pay for it.

Same as someone earning 20k right. Why don't they just on the dole? Get a council house?

Why does anyone work?

Hang on I think you've evoked an actual existential crisis, brb
I know it's a joke but I'm sure this is a decent lifestyle decision for some.
Maybe that's why they are cutting benefits too.
Jesus...Sweden's looking better everyday, touch wood. :P

I see it pop up often on FB - folk trying to swap their council houses (apparently this is a thing you are allowed to do). They are immaculate new build places, right in the centre of town. If you can swing it, you'd be mad not to tbh.

I genuinely dont know about the "stealth tax" as im nowhere near that bracket to be effected by it. I know this may sound like im being a dick but, i'm not, how come there is a stealth tax between 100k and 125k?

So you're not happy

What does doing alright mean? I live in a poorly maintained 3 bed semi on a main road. If rates go up I'll have to sell my car. I needed a boiler so I had to sell my wifes car.

Lucky I am given all these choices huh :D

Many people live in London that don’t earn that sort of money. That’s the point and that’s why people take exception to those waving a big issue around the place.

My question to you if you have children or planning to. How much do you reckon they would need to earn in order to buy a small flat/house in zone 5 of london in 15-20 years from now?
If I'm honest i couldn't say, it's one of the reasons I've chosen not to have kids as i just couldn't handle the thought of what they'd be faced with. Don't get me wrong i have the utmost respect for people who take on the responsibility, they're better people than me, it's just IDK how they do it without going out of their minds. :)

Every pound over 100k you lose 50 pence of your tax free allowance, up until it hits £0 tax free allowance at £125k. In my example maths if I took £106k instead of £100k, I'd get £200 in my pocket. Imagine getting a £6k payrise and netting 200 quid.

So who made those choices for you? I had a similar choice to make when I got on the property ladder. I choose to live well within my means rather than chase a lifestyle I would struggle to maintain. No violin needed.

I am living well within my means. Not sure what your point is?

That is a significant over stretch!

You had to sell a car to buy the boiler?
I know you said you were stretched but this is significant.

Is this purely down to a big mortgage and bad timing?
