2022 QD-OLED thread

That Samsung Menu UI looks mega frustrating. Talk about convoluted.

I have a Samsung ks8000 and its menu is already convoluted and it looks like since then they've just been adding more and more layers to it. The whole thing needs to be scrapped and redone from the ground up, probably should drop tizen and switch to android

Because it's a pre-calibration of which the settings will be available to anyone who researches the tv correctly and will find on the Internet. Then we all know every room environment is not the same, as is our eyes and tastes thus will need to be changed.
To do a pre-calibration is about 5 mins work tops..

What? They mean it's already calibrated for you - with actual calman measurements and the like. Every TV is different.

They don't just mean they are going to mess with some settings that somebody on the internet uses.

You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about, it’s a professional calibration, using expensive instruments to the industry standards.

Eyes and tastes have nothing to do with it, if you want a calibrated device you’d want it calibrated to the standards, which is what is offered.

Hmm I'm intrigued, you sound like someone who also rates Dab+......

Just ordered the 65" S95B, should arrive sometime next week.
If there is anything anybody would like to know or would like me to check once it arrives, let me know.

Hoping I made the right choice, would have preferred the Sony but not enough 2.1 ports and lack of space for a soundbar under it (although it looks stunning) put me off.

I don't trust Samsung, I don't trust any promises they make and I don't trust their support once a new line of TV's is launched. I also find their OS buggy (at least it is on my KS9000, it was ok but has become buggy over time). But heyho, I've lived with a Sammy for the last 6 years and even with the mentions above, this TV should be one hell of an upgrade :)

I still have a ks8000 and the other I tried to use it again and the UI and apps felt really laggy, I don't recall them being laggy like that when I first got it what have they done

I have a ju6800, so quite a few years old. I just use a firestick instead, although a 77 inch oled is what I want next.

With no Dolby Vision support every other set out there is surely better than all of Samsung's range. I know it would anoy me knowing that I had bought something that has the equivalent of Betamax technology. I would have made the Sony work as it's better for image processing and has DV.

Just my 2p by the way, enjoy QD Oled bud.

I think you are getting calibration confused with playing around with the main picture controls. Proper calibration has the TV running test patterns that are then measured using some pretty expensive gear. THe accuracy of the readings then advise on what settings need to changed. It means going in to all the 2 points and 20 point IRE settings (on my LG anyway) to make the adjustments, rerun the tests. Rinse and repeat until the patterns are reading accurately.

Vincent calibrated my LG B5 a good few years ago. Before his YouTube fame. Im guessing he doing pop round peoples houses to caibrate TVs himself anymore.

Yea, it never used to be laggy. I only realised how laggy it has become when I used an Nvidia Shield for something. It's been getting worse and worse. The Plex app goes really slow and even crashes sometimes now as well.

Dolby Vision mainly benefits TV's that can't hit 1000 nits. It's main benefit is enhancing the tone mapping to get an accurate representation when the TV brightness is sub-par. You'd need to look really hard at 2 TVs that can handle 1000 nits side by side, one with DV, one without, to notice any minute difference in the odd frame it may enhance. If you wanna buy into the mainstream media plastering "Dolby Vision" everywhere and thinking it makes a big difference that's up to you :)

Not sure about that if your comparing HDR10 and DV, it stands out like a sore thumb imo.

I was in JL today looking at the Sony and Samsung QD Oled, Samsung rep comes over and give the spiel then I tell her I'd buy the Sony due to better image processing and DV support. She wouldn't have it going on about how 3d the image looked on the sammy and how flat it was on the Sony, I pointed out that the panels were identical and asked if she was saying the Samsung panel in the Sony was subpar.. she wouldn't have it, even went on to say that HDR10+ was going to be the big thing in 2-3 years time...

LOL, I agree the Sony is better overall. However the old chipset only allowing 2x HDMI 2.1 ports (and 1 taken up by the eARC) is the main thing that made me sway towards the Sammy. I have all the consoles and my PC so for me this one made more sense. Add that to needing space under the TV with no plans to wall mount and I couldn't see anyway I could make the Sony work. Shame really, would defo have gone for the Sony if it had the 4 2.1 ports + a way of raising the TV on the stand a couple of inches. I'm just hoping Samsung don't lie and hold back promised features or fixes in their firmware when their next line launches next year
