2022 QD-OLED thread

I see, and one is earc. I'd still go for the Sony as image is everything.
1 useable HDMI 2.1 port for PS5/XBOX/PC
Sony would have a hands down win for 2022 if they had just used an updated chipset. Sadly they didn't so some of us have to look to Samsung, which is a shame :(

The Samsung is still a nice upgrade though considering my 55" KS9000 is 6 years old. Although to be fair, apart from the UI being laggy nowadays (which is wasn't before) the KS9000 has held it's ground very well. It still outperforms a lot of modern mid-range TV's especially in the image department. You still need to spend £500+ to get a something that can match it

Easy enough to add a 2.1 switch and get 4 more ports.

The reviews of the current switches are all pretty mixed so I wouldn't trust them. Plus I've had to use scart switches, optical switches and HDMI switches before and don't feel that should be necessary on a modern expensive TV. They're messy and inconvenient
Agree 100%. In this day and age when a top flight tv can be £4k plus, there is absolutely no excuse for having less than 4 HDMI 2.1 ports available (inc eARC). There really should not be any need for HDMI switches, let's face it, even a basic soundbar will have a couple of ports along with eARC as well.

Would hardly call them messy. No different than plugging into a TV. Depends how your equipment is as well. If hidden in a cupboard in a different location then it's useful.

As most high end TV's are designed to be wall mounted (thinking G2 here). Please explain how a switch would be hidden in some cupboard some ware ?
As it happens my G2 is mounted on a stand, either way, i wouldn't want to have a switch dangling off the back of the tv.
There is no need for it, it's down to penny pinching be manufacturers. Even a GPU has 4 output's nowdays......................why would a tv only have 2 inputs (+eARC)?

Well I used to run a 10m fiber optic cable into the earc port of the TV and the other end into a switch in a cupboard and had all my stuff hidden.

The switches are also tiny these days that you can get. I have one bearing in mind it's only a 2 port as I only need 1 extra port, but it's smaller than a credit card in size and just sits on the back of my TV which is also wall mounted.

Not arguing that new model TVs shouldn't have all 2.1 ports, but just saying switches are that much of a hassle.

Fibre optic hdmi cable if you want me to be specific...
He might have not realised, and thought you meant to toslink. I actually (maybe stupidly) assumed all high end tellies had 4 hdmi 2.1 ports, I'd certainly expect it of tvs new for this year. I can understand last year having less as the standards only y a couple of years old iirc.

Yeah Sony and Panasonic use Mediatek chips which has the limitation. Think with the chip shortages and covid etc it got pushed back another year, so next year's models will deffo have all 4 ports with the high speed.

Tbh I hadn't thought of the chip shortage affecting tvs, I was distracted by all the gpu/console/car shortages :p .

I be broke if I carry on spending like I have this year

I been hitting my saving really bad this year by spending every month far more then my weekly income :o:o:o

Same lol, I'm trying not to make anymore purchases until after Christmas
And then for some reason last night I found myself looking at some 18TB HDDs thinking that I could finally get around to building my NAS. I did manage to stop myself though :D
