2023 Track Day Thread

Track day went really well yesterday. Car ran great all day and I felt I was getting my confidence as the day went on, morning session was just finding the right settings for adjustable coilovers as they weren't right.
Only thing I'm looking at doing is replacing the brake fluid, that seemed to be the limiting factor for the brakes. Pads and discs felt solid.

Castrol SRF is your friend. Where abouts in South Wales are you

Donington track/test days went well the other week, and race was going well for a while! 27th to 12 in my stint (random qualifying due to power cut at the track), next driver up to 4th, next driver stuck it in the gravel and we ended up finishing right at the back :(

Off to Snetterton 300 tomorrow for track day and evening, then racing on the 200 layout next weekend

First time going into Paddock hill is a bit of a shock! So good when you get it right at speed
Yeah! Big drop but such a good track. Loved it and the s2000 performed well.

Running EBC blues on the front and they lasted the whole day with no fade etc. massive amount of dust but that’s about it. Tyres were zekvona r606 r1 compound and again, really happy with them. Car all back in one piece. She did well.

Busy week or so coming up for me.

Wife is working an evening for Javelin at Snetterton on Thursday. Perks of the job will hopefully mean I get to take the GT86 out for few laps after I finish work. Then got a double header with the MR2 in the Javelin Sprint Series at 3 sisters this weekend. Got a chance to clinch the class championship if things go well.

Then I’m doing Quick 60 at Mallory the weekend after (Should be a live stream on YouTube for that one so I’ll bung up a link once I’ve got one). Just got a first look at the entry list and it looks like I’m unlikely to be challenging for silverware but it’ll be something slightly different and, more importantly, a chance to get familiar with the circuit before we go back with JSS in September

Good luck with the sprint championship

4th round of EnduroKa yesterday, 12h at Snetterton

Finished 19th of 27 starters, but had good pace in my stint especially in the wet and wet/dry transition - 2nd quickest car on track at one point :D Have put together a highlights clip from my stint

Need to get closer before pulling out of the slipstream, and also a bit more decisive about an overtake sometimes, but feel I'm improving every race

Great job, nice to see no lifting on some of those corners. Also good battle against car 69 and lol at their sponsor

Thanks :)

Same team who run a Mclaren 720s in British GT (with same sponsor), one of the drivers from there too... thinking he probably wasn't the one who tried moving over whilst still not clear of me though!

Considering the below - anyone interested in either?

12th Oct Mallory Park

13th Oct Abingdon Air field

I've also enquired about Curborough for below dates:
Thursday 31st August
Friday 1st September
Saturday 2nd September

EDIT - all Curborough dates taken... never mind.

Did my first track day at Bedford GT circuit earlier this week, loved it and definitely have the bug to do more!

@grudas

What were the EBC blues like when cold (assuming you drove the car to the track)?

I've just got OEM spec pads on my MX5 and had utter brake fade at The Ring in April after a couple of laps.

However, it's a long old drive there and although I'm prepared to lose a bit of day to day performance, I'll still need to stop when required!

Thought I had no footage as we lost the GoPro battery cover and had to resort to using a plaster and some cardboard to trying to keep battery secure. Turns out we did get some footage but unfortunately it’s just the start of sessions.

4 minutes onwards is a session where the battery lasted for ten minutes or so a shame as I was out for 45 minutes and reallly was flying by the end and staying totally flat down through Craners at 115mph.

The original owner requested the car back and as he paid £300 less than I gave him I did the deal as I took the car from 900 miles upto 2200 miles and completed three track days in my short ownership.

I kind of felt guilty driving such a mint example, pardon the pun so hard. I could also feel the weight of the 2l up front so as the car was one of the best cars I’ve ever owned when your in the mood and for track my intentions are in the future to acquire a not so mint example and one with a 1.6 sigma or 1.6-1.8 Rover engine and one I don’t feel so bad about leaving sat outside on the patio.

As a car its speed even in a straight line was strong and its ability and enjoyment was incredible and you have zero worries. I also really gelled with the car and was able to push very hard it just felt like an extension of myself. It’s a shame the battery kept trying to escape as by end of day I was lapping another 2s quicker. :)

once bedded in they were absolutely fine. I bedded them in using their suggested bed-in procedure(basically a bunch of heavy breaking to get them hot hot after 50 or so miles of normal driving) but honestly, one session on track will get them hot and bedded in quickly.

other than the dust they stop fine, no issues. Could barely tell any difference between my reds(road pads) and blues honestly. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

here's a few pics from track-day photographer
