Initial impressions of the ASUS ROG Swift PG348Q are excellent, colours are so much better than my old ROG Swift and I'm not noticing a difference between 144hz and 100hz atm, the amount of screen space is insane!

Only downside is I can notice scan lines if I look for them but it seems that all these models and the x34 have the issue? Unnoticeable in game anyway.

Think so, it seems to be down to the gsync module and pushing the monitor to its max with regards to the refresh rate. Some seem to be worse than others though, you ca reduce it but its requires some faff.

No but its using AUC if i'm not mistaken which has the same issues. Just look at the z35 from acer. Again must stress that i might just be way to picky about it and it may not even be an issue for you. However if you are looking at cheaper IPS alternatives you could consider the LG 34um88 ? its dirt cheap compared to the rest and can be overclocked to 75hz+ with ease including extending the freesync range to match the overclock. I have not seen a sample yet that was not able to do it(but dont take that as a guarantee

). If curved is a must there is also the 34uc88 which comes outta the box with native 75hz support. If freesync is not what you are after but gsync instead well then your ffed sadly, price wise that is.

And that, my friend, is precisely the crux of the matter. Gsync is #1 on my list, with 21:9 curved closing following in second. I don't play any twitch games so super high FPS isn't of use, and therefor nor is Fast Sync. I play mainly games like Mass Effect, Skyrim, and FalconBMS, the latter being the reason I'm after a single super wide screen; space does not allow for a multi monitor setup.

Until you find the monitor you are looking for you should try running vsync with a framecap set to -1 of the refresh rate you have set (etc 60hz, framecap 59). See how this run for you as a temporary solution, with triple buffering when able(forced through nvidia cp). Also dont expect gsync to be magic when frame dips below 45-55ish area. The experience turns horrible quick even though some zealots on this forum will tell you otherwise. Ive had so many gsync screens in the past with proper gpus to back them up, done tons of testing and it always turned out the same, you dont want to drop to much below 60. It also wont save you from game engine stutters. Im not trying to persuade you from buying a gsync monitor cause the same principles apply to freesync but its worth keeping in mind when considering to pay these premiums.

G/free sync tech is great but low FPS is still low FPS, I wouldn't want to be dropping below 50FPS even with sync tech.

There are so many ways to get games running smoothly without free/g sync, it just takes some time and experimenting with different configs i.e. borderless VS fullscreen, 59 VS 60 fps cap, triple buffering on/off etc. etc.

Not mad, as you're currently saving £150 buying it at £899, but personally it's still too much. I'm hoping to see it for less than £800 once the AOC drops.

Still waiting for something to replace my couple of year(ish) old Dell 3415W with. I always seem to find VA type screen blurry (there was a Samsung Screen out around the same time as the Dell people raved about, it always seemed a bit blurry and washed out to my eyes). Hopefully something with G-Sync (if I bite the bullet and go 1080Ti) with crip text for work (Word, Excel, web etc) and good gaming response.

Having said that this Dell is as stunning to my eyes as the day i got it (as is the 980ti driving it). Great value for money all things considered but the upgrade itch is making me crazy

Ta, third gen Samsung is a lot better than it was but still to my eyes struggles compared to 1st Gen LG in the Dell. Anything due in the next 6 months to give the PG348Q ROG Swift a run for its money?

AOC responded to my tweet with 'next week'. We'll see if it actually comes in at £799 as well. Somehow I doubt it but you never know.

If it isn't £799 then that will pretty much seal it. I'm not paying £1000 plus for a 34" ultrawide with g-sync, it's bloody ludicrous prices. I'll save a boat load and go for a 34" UW free sync instead
