24 hours of Le Mans 2014

Calling Mercedes, calling Mercedes, come in Mercedes :p
Given how well 1955 and 1999 went is that a good idea?

While I'd love to see more manufacturers in WEC there's still only one winner's spot and the more folk there are then the more folk there are to not win if you follow. The manufacturers aren't interested in just taking part so unless there's a decent chance of a win Merc won't bother. With how things are going in F1 at the moment is the hassle of a WEC programme going to give them any more/better publicity?

Surely the most obvious manufacturer to follow Nissan in are Honda, given that Toyota are already there?

I can't imagine Honda will want to be the only big Japanese manufacturer not competing at Le Mans.

I haven't looked, I'm listening to radio le mans. I think the teams usually have their in-car and pit feeds running though. Try Audi, Porsche, Corvette and Nissan. There's live video on the ACO site, but it might be the one you described!

On a related note, has anyone been to 6 Hours of Silverstone before? If so how busy does it get and is it easy to get a seat if moving around the grandstands.

I've been before, I think it was 2012, it was the year Nigel Mansel and his two sons were driving. Nigel didn't actually take to the track that day, but still managed to get him to sign my program.

Going to Silverstone on any occasion that's not F1 or Moto GP is an excellent opportunity to get to places you can't ordinarily. Well not for us ordinarys who just buy a basic entry ticket.

I was at the Blancpain GT3 a few weeks ago and it was the most deserted I'd ever seen Silverstone. Most the stands were closed but I managed to take a few quick pictures from trackside. All the perimeter gates were open but plenty of gap between marshals, so there was no one to tell me off basically.

I'll post some pictures if anyone is interested.
