It doesn't really supprise me that you got thatreply, big comapanys never answer people properly.....

It isn't specifically on about any one component. Where it says a hardware limitation, it could just mean that say, an X1900XT simply can't render a scene any faster. Do you see where I'm coming from? Or haven't I explained myself correctly?

Nah i understand, but i mean, its obvious the new cards should be able to handle AA just as well as the 8 series..right?

I see what you're on about, I simply think it's too soon to tell if this can be 'fixed' or not. The driver version that came out days after the cards launch showed a performance increase. As I say, it's too soon to tell, didn't stop me from buying one today though

Exactly, grats on the purchase by the way, hopefully when this infamous 8.38 (7.5) comes out final next week we should see some massive improvements and plenty of fixes
Ive sat back for nearly 5 days watching the reaction of most people, and I am utterly flabergasted with all the negative responses.
Yes, its not perfect, and yes, it has issues. but its only been out for 5 days!!! Anyone who knows anything about manufacturing - whether it be hardware, software, or pretty much anything, no matter how much pre-release testing goes on there will always be issues that will mostly be ironed out.
I was going to buy a 8800GTS anyway, but realising this much awaited card came out I decided to buy this instead. The 8800 range is a superb range of cards, but remember that these too had plenty of issues at the start. But all that is forgiven because they were the `pioneers` of the DX10 gen cards. Nobody is being so forgiving of ATI, and indeed they shouldnt be. But give them a little time - at least a couple of week. I am certain that they will resolve most if not all the issues, in a timescale much shorter than nvidia.

Mine worked fine out of the box and blew everything else out of the water. The same can't be said about the X2900XT.
My worst fears are confirmed, it really is a shockingly bad effort from ATI. This has the potential to be a bigger **** up than Nvidia's embarassment with the 5800 series (if that was the name, it's been blocked out of my memory).

Well the 2900 is getting there, should see some big improvements with the 7.5 its a start at least, Id give it a month or so before the 2900 really is totally supported,
for instance I went from 8.37.4.2 to 8.37.4.3 and got 20-30 FPS boost this was with 8xAA and 16xAF 1680x1050
Went from 30fps
shocking I know, to 60-70 fps which is a little more acceptable, still no where near the GTS which is around 100. Hopefully these 7.5s sort some of this bad performance out, tbh i expected it though these are alpha drivers after all.
