From his last screenshot post you can cleary see that it isn't as simple as the next-gen mode being disabled. Something is most definitely amiss but it's not as simple as that.
Both sets of indoor screenshots look the same to me apart from Lara now casting a shadow on the floor in the second set.

If you look at the statue in the background it looks completely different just as before, much flatter and even a slightly different shape. There also seems to be no shadows casting on Lara's figure and her face texture (along with all the others more or less) look like standard mode.

I've done a couple of picture comparisons to show what I mean, forgive me but my MSPaint-Fu is weak.

You can tell by the statue in particular, the "after" pics look like a totally different game. I'm not talking about the blur by the way that's obvious, just that in both sets of Tom's pics next-gen mode vanishes.

Lara's face is nowhere near as bad now though, but it's as if all bump/paralax/light mapping is totally gone.

Can some of you guys check out HL2 + Lost Coast and look at some chainlink fencing at different angles and distances?

BECCO (at Rage3D) posted some Lost Coast screenshots, and the chainlink is not being rendered properly:

http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?p=1334950155#post1334950155

Ok ive done it, 8x AA with 12x Narrow tent 16xAF and Adaptive AA

Here we go, looks like i get the same problem I looked at the chainlink from both sides and then head on, the problem dosnt occur when head on.

Have submitted this to Catalyst feedback...

Lol ^ If i was looking at those screens, I would have thought I can just jump across the fence Lol, looks like a mighty big hole.

The chainlink is rendered as you get closer to it..

Not always. In BECCO's pic, the closest section of fence (to the right of the crate) shows no chainlink at all. It's at a steep angle, but it's clearly rendered in the 8800 pic.

it depends on the games mipmap level i think

R_mip somthing or R_texturemip somthing it will come up with it if you type in part of the word in the console

Really is a shame to see all these issues... I think I'm going to grab a GTS having seen this... I may change horse later on when the 65nm cards come out or the R700. I'm sure some of these issues will be sorted eventually but being objective about it, and factoring how much hassle I'm willing to put up with, it looks like I'm going back to nvidia again.

Got to say I hope the early adopters get decent driver fixes, with a bit of luck you'll be laughing in a months time; let's face it you deserve the reward for beta testing these drivers ;)

...

On a related note I noticed that shuttle is having a tough time cooling now, perhaps people would be interested in looking at this.

Gift.

Just thought I'd say it ;) :D ,

Quake 4 running Ultra settings with 16xHQ AF, 8xAA, 16x Wide tent, runs superbly well even on multiplayer the framerate rarely dips below 50, very impressed and with all that action :D , all running @ 1680x1050.

I have a Silverstone Sugo running in exactly that sort of configuration, perfectly capable of housing an overclocked Core 2 Duo and 8800 Series graphics card.

I have an Athlon X2 3800+ cooled by a Thermalright SI-128 (PSU cooled) and a 7300GS in mine though, only a HTPC.

First time I've heard of Silverstone, admittedly I don't really look beyond tower cases, but they look really impressive.

Ok here is a comparison from the AA set in game and then the AA set in CCC, there is definetly something fishy, just look how bad the IQ is with the AA set in CCC and look how blurred it is, when its set in game the IQ is fine there is a massive difference also. I had to save in JPEG so there is some loss of quality but you can still see what I mean.

AA Set from the in game options;

AA Set from CCC

Not happy at all.

I thought that EATM feature was gona be officially in the 7.5's. :D

RE: Catalyst 8.38 ??? by Gary Key on: May 15, 2007 12:25 AM

I have worked extensively with four 8.37 releases and now the 8.38 release for the upcoming P35 release article. The 8.37.4.2 alpha driver had the top performance in SM3.0 heavy apps but was not very stable with numerous games, especially under Vista. The released 8.37.4.3 driver on AMD's website is the most stable driver to date and has decent performance but nothing near the alpha 8.37 or beta 8.38. The 8.38s offer great benchmark performance in the 3DMarks, several games, and a couple of DX10 benchmarks from AMD.

However, the 8.38s more or less broke CrossFire, OpenGL, and video acceleration in Vista depending upon the app and IQ is not always perfect. While there is a great deal of promise in their performance and we see the potential, they are still Beta drivers that have a long ways to go in certain areas before their final release date of 5/23 (internal target).

That said, would you rather see impressive results in 3DMarks or have someone tell you the truth about the development progress or lack of it with the drivers. As much as I would like to see this card's performance improve immediately, it is what it is at this time with the released drivers. AMD/ATI will improve the performance of the card with better drivers but until they are released our only choice is to go with what they sent. We said the same thing about NVIDIA's early driver issues with the G80 so there are not any fanboys or people taking money under the table around here. You can put all the lipstick on a pig you want, but in the end, you still have a pig. ;-)

AA in game with next gen ON is fine
AA in game with next gen off is fine
AA in CCC (AA off in game) with next gen off is fine
AA in CCC (AA off in game) with next gen ON is where the problems arise

have you tried

AA in CCC (AA ON in game) with next gen ON ?
