2TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA SATA-II HARD DRIVE - JUST £79 inc VAT

Spie is very clever business man. He did that to bring people to his shop. that's why his business is very successful.

If I own a computer shop, i'd love to have spie to run my shop

purely subjective,

lots of traffic/new customers to site (tick)
50 happy punters old & new (tick)
bad press/rep for the majority of others (tick)

so the most ocuk could have gained is 50 new customers, obviously less in reality, and hacked off hundreds more.

not good business.

and for the record i owned a computer shop in the 90s, and I would be crying if id just done this!

No we are not. You can see most of the replies are still up. People on the other hand are swearing and other things which break the forum rules.

You will only be suspended if you break the rules.

where is the post you quoted from me then? it's been deleted! and i didn't swear or break any rules in it hence why you replied to it, another mod must have deleted it.

No its not, that would mean you could add it to your basket sit for weeks and they would only have 1 in stock that you had in your basket but can't sell it cause its in your basket - thats not how online companys work, baskets are there to be helpful not to reserve items.

it is. It stays there for x amount of minutes etc. do your homework!!! I have built sites like this for a living so please ensure you get your facts right!

I wasn't massively bothered about not getting one as I really don't need it, just thought at that price why not try...

having said that it did look rather poor, suprised it wasn't better planned (either different method or making damn sure you've upped the infrastructure temporarily (and stress tested) to ensure it can cope).

50 orders have succesfully been placed. We appologise for the disappointed people who have not managed to get one.

I posted when it was still on page 25 ;)

Anyway I think the fact of the matter is that surely this would be common sense, I saw the same thing happen with the MSI P55 promo and was surprised that no lessons were learned :0

Yep, you are right. :)
I just hope next time the'll manage things in a batter way.

Well, it was fun regardless of how things went.

Slightly off-topic, but we just had a cancer research collection tin go round at work, I dropped in a tenner from the money I was going to spend on this drive, now I feel less frustrated about missing out, I would probably have filled the 2tb with stuff I didn't really need anyway :)

It's nothing to do with being a loyal customer or whatever, did the promotional speel mention loyalty? It said forum members, and most of you specifically registered on the forum just so you qualified for the promotion.

Disgraceful.

And where in the post did it say people just registering will not be allowed it? Can't believe some of you are such moaners even though half of you get free postage when ever you order, anger management time me thinks.

Anyone managed to get over their dissapointment and say "yeah, this fantastic offer from Hitachi is worth a shot, i'll purchase it"?

chalk and cheese

When you add to basket it should reserve the product till you pay at least for a limited time. I have no problem with a lottery but to waste an hour of my life adding delvery instructions with random crashes while im lead to belive i have got one after adding is a joke. Your shopping basket obvously has a big hole in it which i suggest you solve before future competions. To use a lottery analogy its like telling a load of people they have won only to tell the to get lost when they come to collect.

what exactly are you saying is disgraceful here? people signing up to a forum in the hope of getting a product at a discount? (because that seems like rational economic behaviour to me)

but I'm guessing you are referring to something else?

same here i only had to register n the forum as i would ot be able to get one otherwise, been buying from ocuk for ages and dont bother with forums unless i have problems (which untill now i have had none) but i am here now so just goes to show...if i didnt register i would not know where to harrang my stress :)

CONSTRUCTIVE feedback:

what you should have done was...

allow people to press buy when you announced this 1 week ago, DONT take their money and randomly choose 50 order numbers to process and email the people today at 1.30pm telling them if they were successful or not. This way the site wouldn't have crashed and it would have been about luck rather than how poor ocuk's servers are.

I have to say if this thread IS closed I think that shows even poorer form there. You have to take criticism when you muck up promo deals like this.

Please show me these sites, as any and every big company I've ever ordered off does not work this way - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shopping_cart_software

You might have built websites but that does not give you the knowledge of big companys.
