Hello,

Was just wondered if this performance is good for these two drives in raid 0

Im Quite shocked at how high it is (On some of them) i dont really know which each set of Green and Red bars represent.

Thanks

Hmmmmm I was going to buy 2 drives and put them in Raid1 to replace my main drive but the performance difference makes me want to go Raid0

my guess is its something to do with the stripe size. I don't actually know why my stripe size is, but HD Tune says my Sector size is 512 bytes. Is that the same thing?

Green is read, red is write (as stated above chart lol). Each of the different sizes is how fast the drive can copy files of that size. Typically windows uses 4K files the most so this is the best size/speed to compare. At the top end tho big files 8MB+ will hit the drives peak.

that is signifiacantly better than my raid 0 wd vrs :(
so much better i think i may sell mine thinking about it, those f3s are almost 3 times as quick at the 4k area!

Ok, check this out, I just moved my 2 hard drives from the JMB322 sata controller, over to the ICH10R sata controller, check out the read/write speeds now:

Thats about 30% faster than before. Very strange.

Wow, how do these results compare to real life performance? My 250Gb WD Caviar single drive is topping out at 50MB/s and my backup drive (1TB WD Eco Green at about 65MB/s)!
These two drives in RAID0 are about 5 times as fast!? I'm thinking of ditching current drive and getting two of these and keep the Eco green as a backup....Are the Samsung's significantly faster than the 640Gb WD Caviar Blacks? I need the big drives for my photo library.

First compare access time which is much more important for OS drive and much better on the velociraptors ;-) The raided F3s are good as fast storage drive or for video editing etc. not as much for OS. (compared to velociraptors)

Again depends on purpose of use, for storage yes they are 5x times faster. For OS I would think they don't perform much better than single drive would have. But even a single drive of these is probably still faster then yours as it's new gen technology etc. etc.... though me personally I would rather buy WD Black for OS as they seem to be better optimized then Samsungs (for an OS drive). But I am not sure if the performance difference vs. price difference is justified to be honest.

£40ish for 1TB Spinpoint F3 is a DEAL :)

Real world loading times are slightly better than one (1.2x ish? using the OS) But loading Games/Video Editing etc they defo are quicker than just one.

£80ish for 2x 1TB Spinpoints in Raid 0 is a good deal in my eyes.

Bah! I've accidentally bought Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000C drives instead of the F3's, even despite calling OcUK and changing the order on the phone, they shipped the wrong (right) ones! Is it worth sending these back or are they pretty similar?
