30xx Series Founders Edition

Oops, forgot that, disregard what I said about TSMC  (although still applies to AMD GPUs)

Certainly wouldn't put it past Samsung to increase prices over time though, would be very costly for Nvidia to switch to die production to from Samsung 8nm to TSMC 7nm.

You have a point about some (often cheaper) models not coming into stock, I remember trying to get a basic Asus RTX 3070, but only the more expensive models were ever stock in Jan/February.

The way those kind of contracts are usually negotiated the bulk of the product cycle would be at a fixed cost (the flip side being a minimum order quantity that would have to be covered even if demand wasn't there). There would be a certain point where the price could increase but they can't normally just turn around and say from tomorrow we are going to charge you double, etc.

Given the MSRP and the way AIBs have manipulated availability (and in some cases sold directly outside retail to scalpers or miners, etc.) I have my doubts that the majority of blame for prices comes from what nVidia charge AIBs but I could be wrong.

I definitely think Samsung has a lot of bargaining power over Nvidia right now though, what other options does Nvidia have, but to give them a large chunk of the profits?

What would you use instead, an older GPU or not game at all? I really how i can set at max fps on my 3080 and the main game i play (warzone / modern warfare) never drops below it.
Even my 2080 Ti would drop frames in action

I still have my 1080 which is still decent but it would be tough going back to that after a couple of months of 3080 goodness :D

I dunno about Samsung but supposedly TSMC wafers have decreased slightly in price - 7nm ones had gone up past $10K but now are in the upper $9Ks. In comparison apparently 5nm wafers gonna cost $17K so same sized dies would be quite a cost hike.

Generally though with semi-conductor production there will be an agreement to commit to certain amounts at a fixed cost at intervals - usually a larger amount of wafers up front on a new node or product cycle then smaller lots later - which is where prices might increase.

EDIT: Supposedly nVidia has a large Samsung 5nm order so probably means consumer cards aren't going back to TSMC any time soon.

Indeed this. These are long term contracts, they will not flip on basis of random thoughts of some Samsung exec.

Also agree with your comments on AIB partners. There may some cost creep with some parts for AIB's but not to the extent we are seeing price increases.

IMO the simple reason is everyone in the chain is a bussiness. Everyone is selling everything they can produce so why not raise prices, where else will people go, AMD fair no better on supply.

The next release for Nvidia will still be Samsung TSMC just do not have the capacity yet looking like 2023 before a switch back.

Has anyone managed to bag a 3060ti or 3070 FE recently? Are there regular drops?

The 3060ti + 3070 last dropped on the 15th of April in the UK. And before that the 3070 dropped on the 31st of March. Would guess the number of each card in each drop were in the hundreds but I don't actually know. Nvidia sets a limit of one RTX 30 series FE card per household in the UK which makes them easier to get (as long as you are only buying one) as harder for scalpers / bots than other websites without a strictly enforced limit

I'd assume it's the seller as the limit also applies to all cards sold by the store and not just FE so if say you buy an msi 3060 ventus then your locked out of FE purchases.

Shouldnt be, i bought a 3060ti for my daughter at xmas and was able to buy a 3090FE without any problem, i also previously had a 3090 non FE from them.

It changed around late january to where if you had any card of the 3 series you would be blocked from getting another. Previous to that you were only meant to be able to order a 3090 if you had any of the other cards.

I got my 3060Ti in December when they originally dropped, since then I've been trying to get a 3080 but I'm never in the country when they drop, as I'm out again from 1st-10th May I suggest you guys get ready for another drop lol
