Glad you like it! It's a cracking card though you should be looking at roughly 3x the perf of the 970.. even a 1080 non Ti is roughly 2x 970 and the 3060 Ti is another 60-70% faster than the 1080.

I did notice I got around three times the 970 fps in my other tests (unigine superposition, heaven). I don't know why Far Cry 5 was so stingy. Possibly my i5 4690k is showing its age. I've got it waterblocked but never overclocked it, so might give that a go...

That's standard generational improvements from yesteryear. Typically 20-30% is the uplift on CPU/GPUs.
So 1080 > 2080 > 3080 should be around 60-70% (if buying the 3080).
The 3060Ti is essence a cutdown 3070. Both these cards are inferior to the 3080 but a notch down so again you would expect it to be faster than a 1080. I am not sure the 3060Ti is that much better than a 1080, I would realistically put it about 25% but obviously you can call in DLSS or RTX which is nice. If you own a 1080 selling it would fund a lot of the new card so there is that. Paying £370 for 25% used to be shockingly poor value.

The quiet cooling touted in reviews, not so quiet in my cramped case, hitting 2200 rpm. But as it dumps some of the heat outside, temps in case are actually better.
Will be playing with undervolting next, initial base level at 0.7V is impressive 1535 MHz

I think you're getting mixed up with the 1080 Ti..That's standard generational improvements from yesteryear. Typically 20-30% is the uplift on CPU/GPUs.

Lol all you people moving from 2070supers etc, I'm sat on a 980TI which tbh is only recently showing its age since I bought the 38" Alienware. I've been trying to buy a 3080 for the last 10 months, I'm never in a position to be able to buy one when they release a batch.

i went from 980 Ti the other day, nothing wrong with leaving a healthy gap. You get a real boost.
I only felt the age of the 980 Ti above 1080p. It was still excellent at 1080p in my opinion.
3060ti is way faster than a 1080, probably more than twice as fast.

You can also install Telegram client on computer so you'll see the popup while you're working. Depending on IT policies but my employer is pretty laissez-faire.
It's not just about your phone going beep though is it.
You just literally can't be ready to react/buy one at any time unless you do nothing. As per some posts earlier, there are numerous professions where you can't just stop what you are doing and order a graphics card.

cpu's definitely haven't been going up 20-30% per generation, more like 5-7%
I do agree on your gpu thought though. FYI, 20-30% per generation would be 45-70% after 2 new generations.
Now for the real question, how much uplift am I going to get from my Sapphire Radeon RX 470 Nitro+ OC 8192MB GDDR5 I bought from OCUK in Jan 2017 brand new for £200.
I had decided this generation was going to be the one i'd jump on, but my god what a terrible year/generation to try to get back in to the gpu game eh?
Yeah mine is more than silent, it's just, there.
I've been playing Far Cry Primal - the difference from my 1080 is quite spectacular tbh.

It depends on what display res you game on and other components but as a general statement I just think the 3060Ti isn't a mammoth jump certainly not double the performance which would be a 100% improvement. 49% faster is realistic but its waaaaay off double/100%...

Take for example the 2080Ti, people were dreaming that loads of the 30 series will beat it because its newer, yet in reality the 2080Ti was better than the 3070 as you get more VRAM. The 3060 is slightly slower than a 2070 super and 2070 super was on par with 1080ti beating it in newer games whilst running cooler and using less power. So a normal 3060 is slightly worse than a 1080ti. Without using DLSS. Use that and it smokes it especially dlss 2.
So the 3060ti without looking at benchmarks I'd say is slightly faster than a 1080ti therefore significantly faster than a 1080. That's without dlss 2.
The best card IMO of this generation is the 3060. DLSS 2 and tweaked settings means it should run anything even at high Res and FPS.
Problem is folk want to run on ultra at 1440p minimum and many use ultra wide now and don't want to use DLSS or tweaked settings.
I've just started playing BF5 and everything is on low for competitive reasons and it still looks superb.
A game like cyberpunk using DLSS 2 then the 3060 will smoke the 10 series at high res.

It's significantly faster than a 1080 if the normal 3060 was slightly slower than the 1080ti
