30xx Series Founders Edition

Prices on CEX have dropped for all cards, now offering just £1,040 for 3080 FE, rather than the £1,260 of two weeks ago.
Guess if crypto drops more and after Christmas and more drops it'll be even less.

3080fe dropped on November and price drops not really surprising they got more stock now really find it hard to believe people are buying them for £1600-£1700 cex sells them for

I don't understand it either. Miners don't make that much per card. Just seems like a lot of outlay when the market could crash...either market...crypto or the value of the card they bought.

I dont think miners would be buying cards at that price tbh. They may do for a couple hundred over regular price but they or any sane person wont be spending over a grand for a 3080. LHR cards are useable since you could dual mine ETH+<other> with no penalty which has been for a while now.

Its all about ROI - hash rate and power cost vs time and money spent.

So is it just gamers buying from CEX then?

Mad ones at that.

I'd stopped mining...but I've decided to rack up another checkout on nicehash.

The only way to tell is if people share/disclose that they are doing so. All I can see from posters here is the opposite i.e. selling theirs to CEX.

Living in the UK which the majority on here will be, the prices of electric have gone up minimum 25% since the summer rates with many small firms going bust and the rest hiking up again. You would have to be daft to pay CEX such a fee (you are talking here 3x RRP) unless you have some unicorn supplier offering below 20p a unit for your risk be worth it.

Also something else to consider if Boris and his two lackeys manages to lock everybody up again after Christmas, Graphic card demand could shoot up again.

You mean like being on a fixed tariff still? (although to be fair mine is up in April - not looking forward to that!)

Saying that, even with 15p/kwh whattomine suggests ~$4.66 profit/24hrs for a 3080FE, so to break even on a card that cost £1.5k would still take almost 18 months

Its not really breaking even if you have recouped the whole cost and still have the card though. If someone picked it up for 1500, mined 200 quid worth then sold it back when they were taking 1300 for one it would be breaking even in a shorter timeframe. Not that I would consider paying that much for a card myself and I have no idea who is buying them especially this late in the cycle.

Maybe it is miners or just gamers who hope to at least mine the scalped difference back to close to MSRP. I mean I scoffed at the cost of a 3090 at launch but had I picked one up then I could have easily mined the excess cost back :p

Yes because the stereotype (on this forum) is that its miners buying all the cards up, which I would agree with if the ROI metrics were meaning you could pay off a GPU in a low amount of time. The more time it takes the more risk. 18 months is a ridiculous amount of time to break even IMO (i.e. 40 series cards etc will be out before and probably better to invest in).

Then you have the one outlet to buy an FE from (which gives best ROI as its fixed price) which for most people means its hard to just buy loads of FE cards i.e. they are not all going to miners, however then you have to just take a look on the bay and see these listed FE cards which are on there by scalpers at high prices.. which if your a muppet willing to pay that price whether your a gamer or a miner then its feeding the system.
