30xx Series Founders Edition

There was so much hype around SAM and the improvements it gave and well that just didn’t bear fruit in most benchmarks I saw.

The 6800xt was meant to be level pegging with the 3080 with SAM off and give an up to 10 percent improvement with it on.

In reality it made very little difference and the worse RT performance was the using on the cake for me. The other nvidia features are the using on the cake and well worth the extra £50, not that you can actually buy either at the moment at that price.

I guess let’s wait and see on what AIB pricing is like. Before making any final I regret buying an FE calls.

The 6800xt did best on newer games and same with SAM. The 6800xt was already 20% faster than the 3080 in Valhalla and with SAM on it gained another 20% performance. Ended up 105 fps vs 60fps on the 3080.

SO bodes well for the future.

Have you got a source for that? 40% better performance is an order of magnitude more than any of the games I saw where AMD were ahead. Most were more like 4-6% if they were even ahead.

Hardware unboxed. Tested 18 games and then a few with RT and SAM and stuff. Really good roundup and review, well worth watching the whole thing. 17minute mark is the SAM gains. Yes in some games its just a few percent but Valhalla is a AMD sponsored game and really shows what SAM is capable of (and the 68000xt full stop) in performance.

The minimum frame rate on the 6800xt is higher than the average fps on the 3800. That was a toal beat down in that game.

Have not dropped one this week or last, only been 3070s / 3090s this week and last.

How did you get on with your 2nd FE? Has that got coil whine too? I sent my one back, ended up getting a 3090 aorus master. Has barely any coil whine, just a tiny bit. But the fans have a slightly annoying motor sound when they ramp up and 1700 quid on a GPU is stupid, so probably going to return it.

I do really like the 3090 FE, it was so quiet and ran cool, just annoying that it had coil whine.

Ah 1080p, makes more sense I didn’t pay much attention at that resolution. At 4K there was little difference.

Looks promising as you say though and at 1080p there appears to be other bottlenecks which are not raw GPU performance and SAM has a bigger impact. We’re any other games using the same engine tested and did they give the same result?

It will also be interesting to see what happens when nvidia enable it too.

Nah I was looking at 1440p to be honest. Yeah the gains are minimal at 4k but even with valhalls, the gains were still 14.5% with SAM in Valhalla.

Going forward with AMD tweaking stuff for each new game, seeing a 15% gain at 4k isnt to be sniffed at and means instead of the 6800xt trading blows with the 3080 in games, it will be beating it in every game, even at 4k.

Valhalla is a new AMD partnership game so thats why it showed the best performance even before switching SAM on.

If you watch the whole review, he does pass comment that the 6800xt tends to beat the 3080 in the newer games (and by up to 20%) and loses to the 3080 in the older games (but only be up to 6%)

So interesting times ahead.

I didn't just mean RT, as I also said I hoped for more but in the games with RT I've tried it's handling everything so far with ease at 1440P so overall an 'awesome' GPU :p
Looks great, fantastic build quality, extremely quiet (inc at idle fans turn off) & at 1440P has handled everything thrown at it so far. BFV, although not the best implementation of RT sits at my monitor refresh rate at max settings and the GPU not even maxed out. 80% improvement in a few games I checked.
Wolfenstein I thought something was up as it was only reaching max 40% utilisation at max settings but then realised my montor was only set to 60hz for some reason.
Might not be the case at 4K but it's a great GPU for 1440P. Not done much gaming until recently so maybe seems awesome to me as finding everything running beautiful and smooth, notable BFV, vs from what I remember, so maybe an element of something new - bit like driving a fast car that you havent driven in a long while, you appreciate how fast it is again (vs driving it daily)
I read it wrong then, my bad. Yeah the card is very good I am enjoying it. But thus far it is far from awesome in regards to RT from the few games I have seen. I am hoping Cyberpunk and games coming out will fix that. Atomic Heart looks awesome for example.

Not taken it out the box yet since yesterday :p

Tad too busy. Will get around to it tonight and report back, fingers crossed.

Spending over £1399 for a 3090 is kinda pointless, you barely get any performance increase for spending that £1899 on a FTW3 or £2499 for a KP(assuming).

Just one thing, 3090 FE cooler fans at 100% are almost as loud, and actually more annoying than my 65dbA water chiller, need EKWB to release that block.

It depends what NV have in the bag for this gen. A Titan must surely be due at some point and then maybe a gaming biased Ti will be based off of that, and a refreshed 3090 maybe too.
Time wise Id be suprised of anything this side of late first quarter 2021

FE is the one to have. Great GPU especially at <4k. I hoped for a bit more from RT this gen but at 1440P I'm finding it awesome so far with RT.
Yeah but they need to compete with the 6900XT which would remain unchallenged if nothing was launched in 1Q21.
