360-watchdog

"Each incident is unique and looked at on a case-by-case basis"

That can't be good news - it's like saying theres loads of things that can and do go wrong with them rather than some minor issues which we know about!!!

I haven't bought a 360 as I just can't afford for it to break as soon as the warranty expires. I wouldn't buy anything if thought it would break a short while into it's life cycle.

Hopefully the reliability rates will creep up (to co-incide with a price drop - then I really couldn't resist...) :)

another £25 and you get another years warranty.

i think people are silly to not buy it because it "might" break. it's like me saying i'm not going to buy a car because it "might" break down.

So was it today and I have missed it or is it next week?

Edit: Missed it according to the 2 posts above :(

I think what is more likely is that most people were forgiving in the first year (most units get swapped out at retail and the others get dealt with by MS in a timely fashion, apparently).

Now a lot of people's machines are out of warranty they are getting more miffed? Makes more sense then your conspiracy theory!!

rp2000

It was supposed to be a joke.

I loved the e-mail they had at the end about the guy saying he was on his 9th console.I bet it was some little geek/MS hater and is probably roflmfao'ing on his local forum this very minute.

Hard to think what he is doing with them if it is true though.

if the failure rate of 360 keeps up or when the better V2 comes out, we might see refurbished V1 360 at below 200 pounds.

Anyone interested? refurbished set with standard warranty and that will last just over a year?

LMAO.

The guys ended up sounding a bit sad, but there is a valid point in there somewhere.

"Microsoft has now offered Ainsow a replacement console and some new games"

Where's my new games!

So basically you have to go on tv and moan to get a console replaced after a year lol. Why would they sort him out after a year but not everyone else. Thats admitting a problem is there.

I'm a little annoyed with the outcome of this. So yet more people get their 360 fixed out of warranty for free, yet everytime I ring them they tell me to get lost!

becasue he was upset and it was a gesture of good will by MS and he had the balls to do something about it, just like any other product that goes wrong after warrenty and gets on these shows, the company alway offers something as a gesture of good will is NOT a sign that there is a actual problem.

a massive total of 248 complaints!!!!,

and really looking at another forum when someone says they are on their 6th console in 8 months well makes you wonder what they themselves are actually doing to them.

BTW still got my launch console here

this forum alone has had 100's of problems, another forum i go on, nearly everyone who has bought a machine has had it replaced, and people i know in "real life" who have had machines, only 1 of them has now still got his launch console.

There is definately an ACTUAL problem. And it seems people like you are the minority lucky ones.

Not sure what you expect when you keep getting refurbs back. My refurbs were crap and my problems only stopped when I demanded a spanking new one.

But there is an actual problem, hence they extended the warranties in America. Probably to avoid a class action suit, which they may still end up with. IIRC the BBB are looking into it in the US.

248 complaints, but lets not forget how many gamers are gonna be sitting watching Watchdog on a tuesday night? The burd in it isn't that appealing.

And surely not everyone who has had multiple consoles can't be people new to consoles?
I am sorry but all the crap about keep it 10ft away from everything, and not on carpet. Don't keep the powerbrick in a vaccum sealed enclosure at a steady 5.6 degrees, is just nonsense.
The thing should be able to sit in a standard TV cabinet without breaking. If not then its a crap design and it does have issues.

I have a launch day console too, but every time i switch it on, i half expect it not to come on. It's a shame because the xbox was pretty much bullet proof.

My 360 which was 13 months old broke the other week I didn't even bother phoning Microsoft I took it straight back to where I bought it with a copy of the sale of goods act. They just said it was just out of warranty but they'd replace it anyway so I didn't even need the sale of goods act.

Yeah that's great for you then. I hear this all the time from others on here and on other forums. They dont have a problem personally so no-one has a problem...

2 consoles dead in a matter of 14 months (1st one was a release model - dead in 4 months. 2nd one lasted until December update went out on Live) , not a great sign really IMO.
Still have the Xbox Crystal, SNES, Megadrive, Dreamcast, PS2, PS, NDS, N64, Saturn (somewhere in the loft, but bet it works if I bring it down), NES and an Atari 2600 woody, all of which are older than my 360, all of which had more use, all of which where placed in the same places (on the top of the tv cabinet by my TV, which is a flat even surface surrounded by fresh air), all of which are kept in impecable condition - still even have the little twisty stick things in the boxes they came in LOL. So before you jump in and start saying its people killing them by mistreating them, think again.

There's a problem with the 360, they just dont want to admit it and loose face (or the £80 a shot to repair out of warranty).

I'm guessing you treat the 360 like every other console you've owned right?

Well so did my friend, He had it where he had his old Xbox, He played it, same way he would his old Xbox, His old Xbox lasted what...5 years? Without having to be replaced?

Yet he's had 2 new 360's aswell. Saying theres no problem is like sticking your head in the sand as far as I can see.
