I've met so many refugees and economic migrants in the past 5 years and I can promise you from their stories they see the UK as basically the promised land.
Guys asking me daily what was the best city to live in. They all love football. Arsenal or Man UTD. Eritrean's, Kurds, Afghans the only ones that didn't praise the UK by default was Iraqis. Even the Iranian I met praised the UK. Hell I even met a Palestinian... when they found out I'm British I was their new best friend. Everyone speaks English, I don't think people understand just how much cultural influence we have over most of the globe.
Most of the Africans goal was to get a Swedish passport then freely resettle to the UK. The final destination, the long game. I found it utterly bizarre.
I can barely remember the guys guy's name but he basically did the rubber dingy to Italy from Libia, then a flight to Sweden on illegal documents then claim asylum at the Airport, route. He got the money from a family member that had already made it here and just pumped the benefit money he got back home.
Pretty messed up world. On a personal level it's heart breaking but it's happening on an industrial scale it's unsustainable to Europe.
