4080 & 4090 Coil Whine Thread

what a scrote to open the card, cover it in superglue and then not mention it when selling it on. i know its murica where it says you are from and the law regarding warranty void labels is different but im pretty sure no one would warranty repair a card that once they open it its full of glue, total dick move and you should be shot

Could just be my age, but yeah, as far as I can tell my Suprim is completely quiet. Given it was the model that seemed to have some of the highest reports of whine I was sure it would have some, so it was quite the pleasant suprise.

Are your case fans quiet and is room quiet. What kind of motherboard and PSU?

What resolution do you game at and refresh rate? What games have you tested and were they maxed out in settings? What is the power draw. And still cannot hear anything?

Just tried the super glue method on a PNY GeForce RTX 4090 card using the guide here: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/...ix-coil-whine-coil-choke-noise.294015/page-12

Only did the ones in red.

Sadly no difference. Still same old chainsaw/buzzing coil whine like noise:mad::mad::mad:

And undertvolting and even setting power limit to 50% does nothing.

At least the Gigabyte Gaming OC responded a bit to be quieter to undervolt and was almost silent at 50% power limit even though clock speed tanked to 1300MHz. And was definitely much better undervolted with 2300MHZ clock speed.

PNY card it tanks and still has the chainsaw noise coil whine anyways with like almost 0 improvement

Yeah, it's quite bad. Tried witcher 3 and cyberpunk with the same result. Sigh... guess I'm going to have to send it back

I am trying another Gigabyte Gaming OC. Still bad, but less bad than like all others and similar to other Gaming OC cards I have tried. I am going to try a different PSU with this new mobo even though the PSU I got should be top notch which is an eVGA SuperNOVA T2 1600. Though there is a slight buzz form my PSU if I put my ear right next to it so maybe replacing will help with this new mobo. If that does not work back to Micro Center and I will get another Gaming OC. I skip Asus and MSI causes chances of getting a good one are lower and overall moderately to much worse whine than Gaming OC.

Though I have never came across any 4090 that had what I would call a good result in terms of coil whine/buzz. Just some that are less or even much less bad than others. And that would be the Gigabyte Gaming OC and some were a little better than others.

It's crazy, the amount of money we are spending and we have to struggle with this.

Yes it is. Its so badly insane. I just want a quiet 4090 and to all it my system for at least 2 or 3 years or longer. I am so sick of this merry go round.

I have done too much parting and in out the last almost 2 years with changing my mind on things and was ready for this to be it with a 13900K build stable manual overclock until the coil whine nightmare of 4090s came about. And I have a 4K 120Hz OLEDM TV likely coming for my birthday in less than 2 weeks. And I do not want anything less than a 4090 for 4K gaming.

If you’re going through a large amount of cards and they all feature similar traits it’s not that you’re the unluckiest person in the world, it’s that it’s within normal variance and “normal”.

It’s like people who exchange multiple ps5’s and say they all have whine, how unlucky they are.

It’s what the psu does in the ps5, and high end graphics cards are going to exhibit some noise, especially at high frame rates.

I’m not saying there aren’t some that have excessive noise, but I do feel certain people have unrealistic expectations and are NEVER going to find a card that exhibits the noise or lack of noise levels they are expecting.

I capped mine to my monitor refresh rate of 120fps, it wasn't running at insane frames.
