4080 & 4090 Coil Whine Thread

After all that effort I don't know what I'd do. I was thinking of giving up at card 3 maybe. I'm willing to accept some noise outside of the case, just not the chainsaw like thing I've got going on with my current one. Interestingly when I spoke to CS at ocuk, the guy told me his eventually got a bit quieter over time.

It has finally happened. I got another SuprimX today and I cannot hear the buzzing. Temps all fine, fans are quieter than my case fans. Don't want to jinx it but think I've finally got the 'one'.

Another case of new Suprims been awesome. Buzzing for you mate... wait sorry not "buzzing", but definitely happy after our long journey!

Yeah I will not accpert any kidn of annoying buzz outside of the case. Every card has had chainsaw like noise emitted in quiet room outside the case. No not literally nearly as loud as a real chainsaw. But the type of grinding noise is unaccpetable even if not that loud.

What it needs to be is more like a faint ear ring type coil whine like my Gaming OC 3090 Ti had and many cards in the past 10 years had and often times a PSU when ear close to it has. So much more pleasant and blends in than the chainsaw like noise. Unless that faint ear ring squeal noise gets to loud and pitch changes. None of which I ever had on LCD TVs nor monitors. But rather at worst a very faint almost minor ear ring at worst like noise only in certain directions head is turned. Any more noise from the card than that is not at all acceptable. If my 3090 Ti Gaming OC could have it only like that or quieter why the heck not my 4090. That is my standard.

What courier are you guys using to send these cards back? The prices seem quite high if you want it insured for the card value. Parcelforce is coming up with £100, lmao wtf

As mine went back as faulty they arranged it by a DPD so I never had to pay. Insurance will certainly kill you if you're doing it as a 14-day thing.

RM Medium Parcel (61x46x46) 5KG covered up to £2500 (next tier down is £1000) is £18.45

That should be plenty big enough to wrap the original box in bubble wrap and an outer bag or something and send it off. Granted the box it arrived in was massive lol.

I don't know how I missed this, thanks :)

Update from my end.

Just went to someone's house who says they have no whine on GAMING OC.

I confirmed they are correct ad I could not hear anything and was very little if anythingm

I tested my system same resolution and game and same whine. We tested my card in their system and a little whine but not as bad.

Then tested their card in my system and whine like as bad as my own card.

So something with my system, and worse card. Confirms maybe need to change mobo again. My PSU is 2 month eVGA SuperNOVA T2 1600 and they have 5 year old eVGA 1000 G3. Both Super Flower based Leadex platforms. We did not swap power supplies as that would have been too much trouble.

But it is puzzling what is going on and why the whine on my cards. And yes I have already tried anothet PSU.

Is the 4090 not as overengineered as the 4080? I know it's pumping like 100 more watts, but I have a suprim 4080 and even with the power slider maxed and runnign at 3 ghz+, the fans barely turn on - I think the aib's were expecting something much heavier duty, these cards are massive

Take your pc to his house to see if it whines, someone else mentioned something about power line issues before. I cricket noise on mine, using a hx1500i

I did and yes it does whine. Their card also whined in my PC.
Wow, will be awesome if you figure out exactly what it is, what about motherboard settings? If you have an undervolt overclock, could try stock and if stock could try an undervolt to see what happens, I know clutching at straws but it seems really odd its your system causing it.

Wow very interesting. @Wolverine2349 do you have any YouTube videos of your cards whine so we can see relative to others that have it and posted here. I know videos never give you the full story but it would interesting.

Yes I thought of that and reset everything to stock and no difference. Whine same or maybe slightly worse.

And it was an undervolt and static well I guess you could say overclock or maybe fixed all core stock speed as 13900KS does 5.6GHz and single core up to 6GHz as I had all P cores 5.6GHz all the time and e-cores disabled on 13900KS.

Stock of course enables e-cores voltage is dynamic and much higher and clock speeds I think on P cores (Which is really all games use were close to the same) and no difference on 4090 whine. Maybe barely or slightly worse but lets just call it the same.
