4k sounds interesting but games run poorly even on good hardware, i'm thinking the upcoming 1440p 120hz G-sync screen from Asus might be better for gaming.. mainly just due to the fact that even if you can't hit 120fps it will still run nicely even if you hit 60 or 40fps on a single card.
This is exactly why I asked about the bf4 @ 4k and playable framerates, seems you would need 2 decent gpus to get it done proper.
I think within 2 the cards may catch up though but by then you can be almost garranteed 4k panels with much better specs, quality and lower prices.
Its still nice to jump onto the 4k wagon just for that screen space and quality alone but perhaps like you said still a bit too early.
If it were possible to run at 1080p down from native 4k while still looking as perfect as a native 1080p screen i would have no issue with a 4k screen at all, in fact i bet a lot of people would buy one if it could do that. That's what irritates me about this technology.
Why wouldn't this be possible?
Because the image processing chips in almost all monitors apply a scaling filter even if the input resolution is an exact fraction of the panel res, so any resolution lower than native comes out looking blurry. Why wouldn't this be possible?
That's what Omar is trying to clarify, whether OCUK will accept baclight bleed as a fault (and therefore will be liable for return postage costs).

I definitely wouldn't make the assumption 1080p will display sharply on a 4K screen without getting confirmation the on-board scaler chip is set up to do that.
Lube up people....

Apple can manage it with their Retina modes, Microsoft just needs something similar.
