** 4K GAMING 1MS 60Hz MONITOR @ SUB £500 !!!!! ** (IN STOCK NOW)

That's what Omar is trying to clarify, whether OCUK will accept baclight bleed as a fault (and therefore will be liable for return postage costs).

4k sounds interesting but games run poorly even on good hardware, i'm thinking the upcoming 1440p 120hz G-sync screen from Asus might be better for gaming.. mainly just due to the fact that even if you can't hit 120fps it will still run nicely even if you hit 60 or 40fps on a single card.

This is exactly why I asked about the bf4 @ 4k and playable framerates, seems you would need 2 decent gpus to get it done proper.

I think within 2 the cards may catch up though but by then you can be almost garranteed 4k panels with much better specs, quality and lower prices.

Its still nice to jump onto the 4k wagon just for that screen space and quality alone but perhaps like you said still a bit too early.

If it were possible to run at 1080p down from native 4k while still looking as perfect as a native 1080p screen i would have no issue with a 4k screen at all, in fact i bet a lot of people would buy one if it could do that. That's what irritates me about this technology.

I think ill stick around for the asus G sync rog monitor this monitor seems like a mixed bag

pretty decent price though

I think 4k will destroy eye sights when leaving the house and noticing everything isn't as sharp lol

Why wouldn't this be possible?

Because the image processing chips in almost all monitors apply a scaling filter even if the input resolution is an exact fraction of the panel res, so any resolution lower than native comes out looking blurry.

I definitely wouldn't make the assumption 1080p will display sharply on a 4K screen without getting confirmation the on-board scaler chip is set up to do that.

It's a vague area, all panels have bleed, just some more than others and it's not a fault unless it's truly excessive and even noticeable in a lit room.

When it's excessive we consider it a fault, but some minor bleed at edges or corners is not a fault.

If they can make the new screens run to 1080p with no penalty i really don't see why they cannot do it, it makes a lot of sense.. it would mean a simple switch from 4k to 1080p to get a game to run fast, and for any hardware that can handle the game, switch back to 4k. And both resolutions would be clear and not grainy, as usual though i suppose it won't be that way. Since things went away from CRT i basically ignore everything but the native resolution just because of the quality loss ( or graininess ) that comes with it.

On top of that if they added 120hz it would be the perfect monitor, but right now i'm going to just see what comes out and what happens with the Asus 1440p 120hz screen.

I think it makes more sense for me to wait for the asus gsync monitor down the line. At the present moment 60 hz on 2560x1600 is fine but for twitch shooters, there's a distinct need for the refresh rates to be increased.

Lube up people....

:D

I already did when I ordered a system with two 6GB FirePros. Hhhhnnnnng

Apple can manage it with their Retina modes, Microsoft just needs something similar.
