Ah poo, looks like the megadeal I mentioned has fallen through so back to my original question.

Basically I can get them for these prices:

Sammy: £250
Panny 700: £354
Panny 900: £437

Going to wait until Friday to see if any better offers but, at those prices, which way would you jump and why?

I went with the sammy because obviously its much cheaper than the other two and it came with three movies in the box.. the extra money saved i put towards some more 4K Blu-rays :)

While the pannys are more pleasing to the eye i dont think they are really worth the extra £££ unless you need some of the features provided on the Panny 900.

Ta for the input. I think the 900 is too much of a stretch as I don't need any of the audio outputs/features it offers, so it's more s question of whether the 700 is worth the extra £100ish over the Sammy - as you say it's mainly looks/build quality I think, they're on a par performance-wise.

I think a lot depends on what offers there are on Friday, if any.

From all the reviews there is little difference between the 700 & Sammy, so save money and go with the Sammy if I were you

Actually the Sammy is £240 as I've just remembered I can get 4% off "that" place :)

Now to wait until Friday to no doubt find the price goes up lol!

I went for the Samsung despite having a Panasonic TV purely for the cost. It was at the time £120 cheaper so that was several 4k films. Its had a few firmware updates last one was yesterday. One thing though. The remote control is bod awful you are constantly hitting the wrong buttons. Its made for an Oompa Lumpa. FF/RW is the worst if you hit the wrong button it skips a chapter instead. For some reason it reminds me of the locator that Ripley uses in Alien to find newt.

HAHAHAHAHA that made me chuckle ;)

your right though thats the only thing i hate about the samsung k8500 4k player....
the remote control was made for midgits with tiny digits lol

im always hitting the wrong button when i try to press that tiny teeny ok button lol
i threw it in the trash and use my harmony remote FTW ;)

I keep looking at Harmony's. Problem is the missus is currently trained to use the BT remote for TV/Amp as it operates both and you dont need to select source I just use the Samsung one as she doesnt use the player not sure whether buying another all in one would confuse the issue again.. :)

Panny 900 now £414 for me.

I'm seriously tempted to say "**** it" and get the 900 - if I'm spending at least £240, why not just go the whole hog and get the best model.

You do not think Samsung will reach £200 by black Friday ? (is it also a years guarantee for both Pany and Samsung .... they are still mechanical )

Will an arbitrary Samsung remote control with dvd button work for the most important remote functions, as opposed to getting a harmony (from a TV or blue-ray)

I do very much doubt it'll drop below £200 yes. Most places are still £299, having only recently dropped below the £300 mark. There are a few places this week who've dropped to £50 but that's a very recent change and I can't see it dropping another £50 on Friday.

That will probably be the Oppo due out now. But it's closer to £600 . With the one drawback for some of it doesn't do Netflix or amazon. But seeing as most investors will have that on a 4k telly it doesn't matter.

My Panny 900 arrived today - got it all hooked up and working great. Updated to latest firmware, and colour me impressed - great picture and sound is awesome through my Denon AV.

Well pleased so far:D
Only have two discs so far - The Martian, and The Maze Runner. What should I add to my collection I wonder?????
