At least til the new cards are out you'll be able to run it at 1440p/high hz too (the scaling is generally awesome apparently on them). With Gsync it should be nice and smooth :)

Yea, I've had a Google around and whilst there's not a lot of information I definitely think the 48" OLED is a serious contender for me. I'm looking forward to more details. :)

Love the idea of the 48" but I think it won't work for me. My monitor is 50cm away from me. Sigh why cant they make them even smaller!

I know they have been having difficulty making the OLED small enough which is why we have been stuck with 55" up till now.

But with 48" panels you could make a 45" 21:9 3840 x 1620 screen and the PPI would be the same as the 48" 16:9 screen. Or they could even do a 38" 3440 x 1440 ultrawide screen using the same size OLED panels.

I would gladly buy an OLED 144Hz 3840 x 1620 for a grand tomorrow. I might even consider a 3440 x 1440 OLED screen if it was only £700.

When you put it that way it makes sense.

Is the Acer Predator X34a still good to buy? I know someone selling one for £400 which is about 14 months old. I'd be using it with a 1080ti and mainly gaming on it. Currently got a Dell S2716DG.

I use mine with a 1080ti and it's the best gaming experience I've had, and I've tried 4k & high refresh 2560*1440. The only thing stopping me from buying one right now would be the fear that something new will replace it soon afterwards.

Then again, as you can tell by this thread I've been waiting for an upgrade for years and it still isn't available. Also, £400 is a lot less than you'll pay for the next monitor that I could confidently call an upgrade (I paid £900 for my X34a).

So, a few 4k 120+hz with freesync and G-sync monitors available now. About 8, mostly 27 inch but some 32's and 43 inchers coming and a 65 inch. I've been gaming @ 4k 60hz for a long time and couldn't do with a 1440p offering.

I've been eying up the Acer XV273V but it's still £900 retail as is an ASUS offering around the same price point. Not interested in paying hundreds more for HDR version for the £1000+ ones.

Anyone gone 4k 120hz+?

I could no doubt enjoy 4k@120fps but a 1080ti is never going to push it. I do value high refresh above IQ and obviously the monitors you are referring to would offer both. It's definitely something I would consider if the new batch of GPUs coming this year can push 4k at least 75-80fps.

Could I give up Ultra wide? Probably. :)

I'm still hoping to see these 48" OLED offerings from LG.

Games I play such as insurgency sandstorm I can easily average 120fps.

Some settings that munch GPU such as Blur and post processing I don't like anyway. Only require light AA at 4k if any. Many setting syou can barely notice any difference unless you sit and look for it, such as shadows. So maybe on slower paced games such as Witcher 3 you may want to up it, but even then the mods for detail enhanced 4k with not much GPU processing requirements.

At 4k you wouldn't put AA to max but many reviews and benches to make them standardised is put everything on ultra and gives low fps as a measure. But the fact is that the options in the games aren't there to just put to max otherwise there would just be a low, med, high and ultra setting and that's it. All the options are there to tweak and play with to get a decent image with high fps. So many will say that you cant get 4k at over 60fps....welll you cant iff you turn everything on and to the max, but they don't put all those options in the gfx menus so you cant play about with getting a decent image with high fps.

So on many games I'm looking at 90-100fps so a 120hz 4k will do me well. I'll be looking at the next gen gfx cards for a purchase as the 2080ti didn't give enough performance for the extra money. No doubt the 3080ti will be an arm AND a leg but we'll see. Also with OLED - whilst it's definitely much better image quality I'm wary of spending 100's if not 1,000's more over tech that will be much cheaper and common place in a years time. With my TV I couldnt stomach paying 1,000's more for blacker blacks when everything will be OLED or equivalent soon enough.

Hence why £900 is still a bit steep for an IPS/VA on these current 4k 144hz monitors and I havent yet parted with my cash. I am looking though.

With a 48+" OLED, or any large display, you don't need to give up 21.9 as you can create a custom res., sure you get black bars at the top and bottom then but not really a problem when on such a big display as it is and even more so when you factor in OLEDs inky blacks

Awesome, as after reading about the custom res, to get a 55 inch as I have Sony XE9005 Tv. I tried how 48 inch would look, and man it would be doable, as it felt much more small - 55 vs 48 then I would have belived. And that got me thinking; hey I could do 21:9 with the 48 Oled, to get it a little smaler vertical screen and also benefit from Ultrawide = win win in my book :D
So yeah, I cant wait for the 48 to come out. Will be friking insane to get that perfect Oled picture quality and awesome motion handling!
