4k Ultrawide Gsync 120Hz+ or OLED TV alternative

Just buy an OLED and be done with it already :D

Absolutely loving mine for gaming, enhanced sync and 120HZ works so damn well  Even when the FPS is dropping/low.

I have locked my FPS in ACSO to 30 (due to potato PC) but it feels so much nicer than what it does on my monitor, input lag and motion clarity wise.

Agreed 100%, just breathtaking. Nothing competes in the TV/monitor market currently and I've tried everything. 4k, 21:9, 200hz you name it.

Having no G-sync has made not as much of an impact as I'd thought it would do. You just get a bit of stutter on drops. No tearing or anything like that. Few adjustments to settings and your golden.

Been playing a lot of emulated games recently and AAA titles on it and its just been awesome.

Managed to get an LG E7 for a really good price so have that now myself :p.

I must go back and try out some older games. I put alien isolation on the other night and my god, what a difference having true blacks with an infinite contrast ratio makes to that game! Just stunning.

Nice one on the e7 (the front firing speakers are rather nice, must admit though, I preferred the looks of the c7!). How much did you pay for it? Second hand or new?

Yeah the C7 is very nice for sure but the added built in the bar and overall design of the E7 is a work of art. Haven't had much time to play around with it as only got it delivered today.

Paid just under £2k. Where i got it from deducted the £500 cash back from the total cost of the TV before i purchased it so no waiting or issues there.

Extra is worth it in my opinion though, sound bar, 5yrs warranty and picture on glass design for just under £400 more for me so a no brainer really.

Yeah the games are just incredible. So many for me have been pretty much a new experience.

Once you go OLED you never go back (trust me). Having seen the QLED it just doesn't come anywhere close.

Even if these 2018 Samsung TV's have HDMI 2.0 with VRR, there is still nothing to run it with. NVIDIA GPU's aren't compatible and AMD doesn't have a GPU fast enough for 60 FPS 4K Gaming.

Nah, HDR is still a mess on Windows tbh. They better sort it out by the time they're released!

For the £1600+ they'll be on release you'll be better off getting a s/h X34/PG348Q imo.

If they can get FALD to work well and better than the last dell, which had FALD, it will be very good, certainly a lot better than any non FALD LCD anyway and blacks etc. will be great but still won't be a match for OLED.

And the main issue with these proper HDR monitors is the price, they will be dearer than OLED 55" TVs, personally, I just can't stomach the thought of paying the same/more for a much smaller screen and still LCD.

Make sure you stick cinema preset on for the sound, it is the best, at least imo anyway :D

Yup, the picture on glass is rather nice!

People always go on about refresh rate, resolution, response time, sync etc. but imo, true blacks and an incredibly high contrast ratio are just as important, if not more important, makes such a huge difference to the IQ especially in dark scenes, throw in proper HDR support and things just get even better (unfortunately still a mess with windows 10 and PC gaming though :o)

Also, another game to check out on OLED, ori and the blind forest.

I've got an X34A already. It's the image quality and higher refresh that interests me, but it would have to be a big improvement.

I have mine on ISF dark room with a few tweaks for night time viewing recommended by most and certainly looks very good.

But yeah I have a 165hz monitor for FPS but that's all I rarely use it for.

I use my LG for most games now and it's just so immersive. Looks fantastic. Sure will check those games out :).

There is more than just the awesome blacks though. The HDR is excellent, no backlight bleed and the 178 degree viewing angles make a huge difference too as you don't get no off angle colour shift, glowing or other lighting issues.

Plus I have absolutely no issues with gaming on it at all, no ghosting like a lot of the other TV brands have (being VA panels) and is nice and responsive in game mode.

@tyler_jrb Have you tried running it at 120Hz@1080p? Smoother? Does it scale well? I'm still tempted to try one for purely PC use :)

Thanks

Yeah is definitely 120hz native so just as smooth as any 120hz monitor. And yeah it still looks very good. Although still prefer 4k 60hz myself.

I've not really tried much general pc usage on it though. it doesn't scale brilliantly. Kind of like having a 55" 1080p monitor in that regard. One of the reasons I still have my 165hz panel.

Although could be sorted with some setting adjustments not sure.

Keep the X34 or downgrade and mount the OLED somewhere where you can enjoy it for games and TV :). Just grab a couch keyboard and mouse like I did.

HDR is awesome because of the true blacks :D :p

But yes, there is a lot to oled than just true blacks, as you said no light bleed, perfect viewing angles, extremely fast pixel response time etc. etc.

Found this on avsforums:

I am using technicolor with oled light at 30, brightness at 51, everything else as shown in that spreadsheet.

Little to no difference between ISF dark and technicolor (this has some over sharpening that can't be turned off though, personally I like a bit of extra sharpness) though when set to similar oled light.

Still haven't found a need to switch to game mode myself yet. But then I am using it in 120HZ 1080P mode.

Ok thanks man, that helps :)

Honestly you will need to try one yourself to see what it is like with regards to input lag, motion and IQ wise in your own environment as well as compared to your own monitor.

All I can say is that 120HZ @ 1080P feels super responsive, it is instant and noticeably better than my monitor (which reviews rated between 5-13ms of input lag). In 60HZ, input lag is definitely more noticeable than my monitor then, although still not bad (with game mode, it would probably match my monitor) and motion clarity is top notch when testing sites like this:

https://www.testufo.com/photo

No signs of ghosting or/and inverse ghosting at all.

Even 60HZ looks way clearer and better than a 60HZ LCD monitor.

Is there anything you are looking for regarding scaling? Here are a couple of photos, first one 1080P:

But as I've said before, if people intend on using it as a monitor, it isn't ideal imo (burn in risk as well as just not being practical for desktop type of usage and far too big for that type of usage anyway imo). Best setup is to have it as purely a game/media display where you are a quite far back and a normal monitor for everything else.
