Look at the state of this:

This was how they arrived this morning. All four wardrobes in this state. £50 delivery cost for them to be this incompetent. £320 worth of goods now scrap.

An hour on hold waiting to speak to someone this morning.

They are bringing four new ones tomorrow, but not taking away the damaged ones until Monday. God knows how I can fit in the boxes when they come tomorrow, and if those are damaged too?

What a mess.

Packaging damaged and one splintered edge? You know they can ship just the replacement bits you need right?

Both ends of each box are like this, on all four items. Also damage to middle of the boxes, dents and chips on the panels half way where boxes are torn open.

I didn't consider asking them to replace individual panels because I was so angry this morning, and they didn't offer this either. But it would have been pointless, I would have needed at least half of panels in each box replacing.

How do you know? You haven't even opened the box...

I did yeah, dents and chips on the large vertical panels in two of them. Dents and chips and damp visible on the ends of the boxes as per pictures above.

I hoped one box would be ok, the least damaged of the four, but when I opened it it had a large dent on the front face of one of the panels.

What's the point me keeping any of it, I wouldn't have been able to assemble any of it this weekend.

they left them outside, did you see how they were handled .. could you have immediately rejected them all ?

yes - I don't see much point trying to determine what might be salvageable.

As soon as they came off the van and were brought into the house I saw the state of the boxes. I wanted to reject but the delivery drivers said that's not possible and I have to contact IKEA. And I wasn't sure at that point whether all 4 would be damaged internally. Once I started opening boxes, yep all damaged.

Lol he was laughing at you there. Of course you could reject them, he just didn't want them on the van as it would be an inconvenience for the rest of his deliveries (not your problem). Frankly with how bad the end looked, I wouldn't have even let them come off the van.

though not with ikea, i understand the delivery problem, ive had stuff arrive on the lorries and they do get very stroppy verging on hostile if you say you dont want the delivery, usually its just unloaded and take it or leave it they just photo it and drive off.
ive had this with b and q and wickes delivery and even screwfix.
very jobsworth ....not our problem we deliver them not inspect.

im not defending the practice and have always got either new items or orders cancelled, getting refunds and or orders returned is always a pain, its as if people dont seem to care any longer ...

Yeah i've not had much luck with Ikea stuff, had half (pack 1 or 2) a wardrobe delivered just before my daughter was born, they sent out a whole replacement but wouldn't take the half they sent initially so had to dispose of that myself. Then the last lot of stuff i bought didn't include any of the wooden dowels so had to go and buy a length and cut my own... right pain in the rear. Don't think i'd buy anything from them again now.

4 replacements arrived earlier today. Boxes much better condition but I can already see a scrape through one box and into the chipboard face.

I will try and salvage out of the other four boxes to make 4 complete wardrobes before they collect the damaged ones on Monday. But it's difficult, they are so large and heavy I'm going to struggle finding space to unpack/repack.

Looks like bargain corner jobbies to me! did they refund the delivery?

AS long as its not the taller (235?) ones I can fit them in the car.
Bought many of these from Bargain corner in damaged boxes haha, chopped one up to fit round a chimney breast to hide it.

Fwiw 235 units fit in E class mercedes if you heath robinson the boot shut and hold it with your left hand whilst driving with your right

I just buy them off of marketplace...

haha the last thing I bought of Marketplace was a TV Unit for 100

Turned out it was the TV unit and 3 other units for 100, sold the other 3 units to ikea buyback and got about 140 in store credit hehehe

Why did they take it to a football pitch?

If you want it home safely, hire a minivan (or like others' have suggested take the car) and get it yourself. I'd definitely be getting a refund on that for the delivery as well as the broken bits.

I can't fit in my car.

Yes will be getting some refunds / compensation for sure. I have photos I will be opening a complaint with.

I've managed to salvage parts out of multiple damaged boxes for one more build so far. And I have two panels with some slight damage that I might be able to live with. One box left to look through.

Hiring a van is a good idea it's just double the cost of delivery and why should that be the only way to get good quality products delivered? Delivery isn't free with IKEA btw- it cost £50!
