5080 & 5090 Coil Whine Thread

Sorry to hear that. I know that feeling all too well from last Gen. Asus got loads better with later 4090s as well. Wonder why they have gone back over.

I'm gutted. Spend ages F5'ing a bunch of stores, drop £1300, wait for the card only to realise it's going to drive you insane, go through all the faff/expense (£40 insured courier to return) of returning it and not even being able to get another card you can be sure won't have terrible whine or even any card at all.

Try burning it in. In my experience it won't change long term, but the first few hours up to say 20 it can.

I only have a handful of days left of the 14 days distance selling returns window so it's all getting a bit risky and tbh, I'm just done with it out of principle. You shouldn't have to deal with this on a £1300 gpu.

At the same time as getting the card, I swapped over to a Fractal North mesh which gives me even less wiggle-room for coil whine due to how 'open' it is. I just can't see a high-power Asus card being a good house mate in this case given their reputation for coil whine. I've put my old TUF 3080 back in now and while there is some whine for sure, it's not over that threshold of wanting to rip your ears out.

It's incredibly annoying, you make a build with a high air flow case that's whisper quiet and coil whine comes along and ***** all over it. If I buy another, I'm buying somewhere where I can return it locally.

EDIT: I have an RMA that's valid until 20th Feb. My options are to try and see if it lessens over that period or just yeet it on.

I'm contemplating adding some sound deadening to the inside of the mesh panel on the Fractal, I don't think it has much influence on cooling anyway

If it's that bad don't accept it chap. The retailers and manufacturers need all these sub-standard cards sent back to them to send the proper message.

Trying some max settings Cyberpunk with RT and something like Doom 2016 low res, unlocked framerate.
