OMG a tripling in price almost since the 1080ti. No way inflation works that way! 50 series I’m out unless I get given £2000 for free by someone then I might… I just might…

If the 5080 is between £999 and £1299 say, I don't think the 5090 will be double the price. You are not going to get +100% performance, it just dosnt scale like that. The market for +40% performance (realistically) at +100% price would be incredibly small.

So I'm still sticking with 5090 <£2000.

That's traditionally how top of the line halo product worked. Most expensive product always had a much worse price/performance ratio than the second tier product, 3000 series, all Titans, 900 series, 700 series, etc... It was only 4000 series where Nvidia decided to break apart from it.

Come on friend you can't be surprised anymore surely. Several of us have pointed it out ever since 2080ti launched and on deaf ears. You(general you) have made your bed, now lay in it ;)

Thing is with the 5090 you get DOUBLE the vram over the next product in the stack. That’s not a small thing at all.
And what the actual **** are you going to do with it all? Theres only so many textures mod packs you can install its not even going to meet half that even with 16k resolution for everything. Just how many buyers are going to be using it for "professional" applications anyhow? Its a halo product for... halo reasons.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is already using loads of vram

It's not so much the amount of VRAM in the halo card, it's the fact that the card below has half. You would at least expect to see an increase on the previous gen's 80-class (3080 notwithstanding).

That's an interesting chart.

If you go back even further, the 8800GTX released in 2006 was a little under $1000 when you adjust for inflation ($599 on release).

One cause for optimism is past price/perf increases. Historically it seems like Nvidia give us a good price/perf increase every other generation;

900>1000 good, 1000>2000 bad, 2000>3000 good, 3000>4000 bad. Maybe 5000 will follow the trend?

This is exactly what I have been thinking so here’s hoping I guess..

Maybe this is where Dlss 4 comes in?

I wonder if this will be released for 4xxx series or will they (more than likely) lock certain functions of it to 5xxx series.
If it's just an update to DLSS Super Resolution or Ray Reconstruction, then no reason why all RTX cards can't benefit, if it's just an update to Frame Generation (like I mention in the RT thread) then this will obviously be 40 series and up only, but if it's completely new tech that uses hardware only found in RTX 50 cards, then yeah will be 50 series only. If it is the latter than it could also be that DLSS SR and RR get updated which has a benefit for older cards, whilst the full whack gains are only seen on 50 series, which also would be fine IMO.

And the 8800gtx ulra price on release was $829 which today would be around $1,260
(Think this price was dropped very soon after release)

Always thought 3000>4000 was really good as i feel the 4090 has great performance

Can't really see anyone saying the performance of a 4090 is bad
