580 GTX Price is up....

Whats funny though is both companys obviously make review sites favour thier cards but you do seem to hear a lot more about nvidia doing it.

And crippling peformance on any game to favour 1 brand over the other is just ridiculous.

What makes me laugh is the fanboys that run to these sites that favour thier particular brand and post screenies all over the place.

I truely think either a lot of fanboys either have nothing better to do or that they are compensating for having really small penises.

It makes me wonder if the owners of these super graphic cards actually spend any time gaming on them as all they seem to do is post"mines better than that" crap on forums.

I know i use my 4870x2 for to its potential for at least 4 hours a day

The only benchmarks i actually trust any more is each user who has no fanboy tendancys who actually post results of them.

Im no fanboy as each card i get happens to be from a hand me down from my brother......so i get what he has no use for when he upgrades.

I would happily bench any game that i have with my 4870x2 if it helped make a comparison for any other user even though i know my 4870x2 would get destroyed nowdays

Both companies leapfrog each other with the fastest card anyway. I know my 5970 wont be the fastest for long but as long as I get 60fps in games I play, I dont really care if a 480 can get say an extra 6 frames a second in the odd game.

I wonder how many sites don't push back?

Anand said:
Let's start with the obvious. NVIDIA is more aggressive than AMD with trying to get review sites to use certain games and even make certain GPU comparisons. When NVIDIA pushes, we push back. You don't ever see that here on AnandTech simply because I don't believe this is the place for it. Both sides (correction, all companies) have done nasty things in the past but you come here to read about products, not behind the scenes politics so we've mostly left it out of our reviews.

I know nvidia do this sort of thing ejizz bud.
You just have to include both companys in whatever you say on this forum or else you get jumped on and accused.

I dont actually like nvidia as a company and before anyone jumps on me, if i knew amd/ati did this sort of thing too i wouldnt like them either.

Saying that if my brother had a nvidia card that was better than mine that he wasnt using then i would not turn him down ,although couldnt be a 480 as my case is way to small to generate that sort of heat and i dont really like the idle and load temps of my 4870x2 as it is.

But beggars cant be choosers LOL

Fair point I guess :), but it's just a bit sad that if one company does something underhanded that you need to tar another company with the same brush, just to avoid getting jumped on by fanboys.

What happens when you don't follow Nvidia instruction...

Pretty sad as these review sites rely on hits to survive, and most will likely buckle under the financial pressure and give in...

This isn't the first time it's happened either, 3 or 4 other review sites like Anand, HardOCP have actually spoken out and complained about being left out of reviews, and a couple of non-english sites also.

i`d love to become a millionare and do my own "true" reviews and benchmarks.

Then again if i was a millionare i`d have plenty of other things better to do like actually play even more than i do now LOL

Can someone verify something for me please.

I'm looking to pick up a new card next week in the 150-200 ball park (probably a 470) and currently believe that none of the new cards are going to get anywhere near that price point, true/false?

True.

Nvidia 580gtx £400+, probably £449 - £479
AMD 6950 circa £249 - £299
AMD 6970 circa £349+, probably £349 - £379

Sad really that a company that big needs to act like that.
Just goes to show that if 580 gtx was really good they wouldn't really care.

well, ive just recieved a direct tweet from charlie
read into it what you will

" the 580 is going to fail compared to the 6970 and it will be an endangered species "

Or maybe they are looking for people who do a proper job instead of dicking around with odd driver versions, poor testing methods, etc. (only said semi-seriously).

Maybe slightly harsh... but wouldn't harm to tighten up procedures and methodology - wasn't aimed directly at w1zzard either.

I don't see why more review sites don't use graphs like that spat out by my visualiser program either - tells a much more accurate story than mins/max/avg.

Its a good job that any card that gets a favourable review or high benchmark results when tested on any of these sites can actually do what the results show or else it would just be criminal.

Then again i would have thought that giving a reviewer/benchmarker a very deliberate set up to gain these results while pretty much forceably making them comply to do whatever they are told to do, otherwise they wont get any new toys, whilst making a competitor look bad or worse was borderline criminal anyways.

Its bending the truth in a legal way i suppose
