580 GTX Price is up....

Massive hit compared to an i7, though heaven is not CPU dependent at all.

Greebo, you're running 470 SLI, you're expecting the 580 to come close to it?

My comment only applied to heaven benchmark in relation to the cpu not making much difference.

Not really expecting it to beat my gtx470's;) but it's a valid comparison on price point though. And big things have been promised/eluded to with the gtx580 especially in heaven and high tessalation hence the alledged report big gains in heaven and stone giant.

However, my point is my two gtx470's cost £360. If the gtx580 is over £400 then it's too much for the perfromance. It needs to be under £400 and by some margin.

Don;t forget a 5870 is on par (or even slightly faster????) than gtx470 so if my cards beat the gtx580 up then so will 5870 xfire and even overclocked 5850 xfire and 5970.

And we haven;t even got to ATI's next high cards in a few weeks.

I;ve seen loads of people sell 5850's and 5870's in xfire in order to buy new cards. I;ve even seen people saying they will sell their gtx470's or their single gtx480's.

I can;t see why though. The gtx580 only seems to be offering maybe a 10% gain over a gtx480 and will still, even overclocked lose out to xfire and sli setups.

So the price is going to be the key. Who knows, perhaps they will play a blinder and release it at £300 to start a price war with ATI.

We very often do get them at the the correct conversion rate plus VAT. The VAT can add a fair amount at the higher end, but on average we get them for very close to what people in the US pay.

Have a look at 6870 on newegg

edit :- i think launch prices were about right

My 480SLI setup pretty much matches a fellow forumites quadfire setup in Dirt2. I guess we are both evil biased reviewers on the payroll of the GPU manufacturers. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=17713399#post17713399 Now were do I collect my green cheque?

Out of interest, which sites can we trust these days? It seems the list of green tainted sites is a moving target this week

Indeed :) Although you had a nice overclock there on your cards :) Personally I thought there was nothing in it performance wise between a Quafire 5970 2 x 4gig setup v a GTX 480 SLI setup, bar the obvious price difference. ATI didn't appear to have lower minimum or average framerates compared to Nvidia as some people insisted was the case. And quadire scaled ok too, which goes against what most people claimed who incidentally are non quad fire owners. Since I ran those benches I repeated with my GTX SLI setup, and again found nothing in it. I will say that without a shadow of a doubt sli scales better, evidenced by the fact I needed a 2k euro ATI setup to overtake it just slightly. Personally I think whether one goes crossfire or sli, there is not a lot in it. There does seem to be a lot of bias on some review sites though, which is a shame.

aye but I can see a lot of price gauging. :-(
6970 wont be out for another 2 weeks, and 580gtx is going to be the fastest the most wow gfx for those 2 weeks.
If I was running a business I would sell these 580gtx for 500£ because you know there will be plenty nvidia fanboys that will pay that money to have it there and then. By Dec prices should settle to a more resonable 400£ <

I'm having 2nd thoughts now. I sold one of my EVGA SC 480's for almost as much as I paid for it, but the person who was to buy the other one pulled out. A complete balls. I really hope these 580's are nowhere near the 500 mark.

Here have some reviews from the past month.

No 5970 comparisons on any of them benches at all raven:rolleyes:
Whereas gerards bench actually did show a 5970 vs sli 480s which the 5970 won
