I've just ordered a 5800X at £350 so will hopefully have that by next week and finish off my system for a good while. A 5900X was probably wasted on me although still wondering if it was the right move as I planned on waiting until the end of AM4 to see if anything else were to appear.

After four months of waiting for a 5900X I'm still sitting at 450+ in a queue and am considering giving in and settling for the 5800X. I've seen quite a few mentions of them being got for £350 but have never come across one at that price.
Are you guys using some magical dark web that I've yet to discover

No just discount codes that seem to come about every few weeks.
I ended up cancelling as I had read a post elsewhere stating their CPU came still covered in CPU paste so more like a customer return. Not worth the £40 saving really.

Just grab a 10850k for £380 which is cheaper and has a couple of extra cores than the 5800X, why give your custom to AMD when they have just made you wait 4 months for a CPU that still likely won't be delivered for a few more months.

I'm waiting to hear how the others get on with it that also bought. I've read as long as it comes in the retail box that you can get a warranty claim easily enough though. I'm just not home for a number of weeks so don't like the idea of it sitting about waiting to be tested with the possibility of it being faulty/damaged in transit.

Even so it's really only the board that needs changing.

That's a tempting suggestion but just as @michty_me rightly guessed, I rather stupidly jumped the gun and bought a X570 board last October in anticipation of the new AMD releases. I don't fancy my chances of returning it after 5 months even though its still boxed and unused!

Ultimately, I think I'll bite the bullet and end up with the 5800X for £400+ to keep the hassle level as low as I can.

Just get the 5800x if its just a gaming rig, they clock highest anyway with all the power directed to one chiplet.

10850k is certainly an option, but seems pointless and will cost you more with what you lose on your motherboard.
