5820K to Ryzen?

lol @ this thread. if you sell up x99 at most you will be adding an additional £50~ if that! for 2 more cores + (likely better ipc) and a platform that will remain relevant for atleast 4 years.

But,wait are you not on X99 too - surely you must pump platform X99 as the non-dead horse option? :p

Wow, why are you guys so defensive ? i'm just stating the facts as i see them, and i'm not trying to justify anything about my x99 setup, fyi i'm very likely to buy a Ryzen setup to replace my living room rig. I think people in general should just stop , breathe and wait for the reviews.

See faceman123's comment. What he says is kind of obvious, but you seem to think it's pointless. You tell everyone one to wait for the official reviews before commenting. Yet that doesn't seem to stop you telling people it's a pointless upgrade before seeing the reviews. I see the point in waiting for reviews. But please be consistent.

How do you know whether AM4 is a dead horse platform?? Do you have some secret documents you would like to share with us??

Simply put we have no idea of Ryzens overclocked performance, we just don't know, put it this way, there are many gaming situations where a stock i3 will outperform a stock 5960x or better , but overclock and its a different story regardless of ipc, if Ryzen runs out of puff at (for example) 4.2 ghz and cant compete with a 6800k at 4.5ghz then yes it makes the upgrade kind of pointless unless the trade off is that you NEED the extra 2 cores. It seems that you've already made this Amd's Sandybridge before we know any real facts from independent reviewers, the same happened with bulldozer and piledriver, they were hyped to unattainable levels.

I didnt say AM4 was a dead platform, i said they ALL are pretty much from point of release, my point was that Amd have a habit of drawing out their platform lineup to the point it becomes archaic and irrelevant especially for enthusiasts, but hopefully they wont make that mistake this time.

PS Your hardly making a point by misquoting me.

True we shall see soon enough. Although on a side note, I thought most 6800's reach around 4.2 - 4.4. Sounds like you must have a good sample, or using a lot of voltage.

Amd on the other hand seem to flog a dead horse while the competition stride ahead, don't get me wrong i'm very interested in this release, but whats the point in an 'upgrade path' when the platform is so outdated lacking what are common features in 6 months to a year, just look at the Am3 platform....

In a year or so time i'll bet that X99 will still be relevant for gaming and whilst it will lose value i'll predict that it will command a better resale price than a second hand AM4 setup.

Nope,no you are deflecting what you said - you now are squirming out of what you said.

You have no clue about how long AM4 will last or what updates the platform will have - its mere FUD on your part, since if Ryzen is competitive you can use that to try and push people away from it. Its called "fake news".

So show us NOW the documents you have that show AM4 will be a dead horse and has no upgrade path.

YOU made the statement so instead of squirming out of it,show us the proof NOW.

OTH,it shows you how you have not realised Ryzen is an SOC,so there is room for new features to be introduced when Zen+ and so on are launched anyway. The chipset functionality is in the CPU itself. The motherboard is only really a port extender.

So if you don't have any documents to backup the claim YOU MADE,all you are doing is lying through your teeth.

Maybe he's a reviewer under NDA? Why else would he be so sure, yet tell others to wait for reviews.

Its called spreading FUD - they have no clue how long the platform will last, and they apparently have no clue Ryzen is an SOC. The chipset is integrated in the CPU itself.

So unless they are inferring AM4 is only going to get the first batch of Ryzen CPUs,then they can't say what features will be supported in newer updates of the CPU and APU line.

In fact AMD has basically said they will have three revisions of Ryzen and the uarch will last 4 years - that indicates it will be updated.

Unless they have some magical secret document to say every Ryzen CPU and APU in the next 4 years will have the same integrated chipset functionality and AM4 is being replaced immediately, they have no basis to say the platform is dead or won't get updates.

This is the same thing which affects other AMD products too - people make certain claims like that but cannot back them up.

i want to know what the benefits are of having X99 over Zen lol, seem as so many people are against zen

X99 is made by Intel??

I bought a grid+ v2 which is a great voltage fan controller. However CAM software is really bad so I use OpenHardwareMonitor and Grid Control which are much lighter and more stable.

Thanks for that! Didn't know about Grid Control. Looks good.

I've got a Grid+ v2 which I also think is great. I've heard about some people having trouble with CAM but I've not experienced any problems yet but it is useful to have an alternative!

Good sample and just lucky, and what i said was just for example, my 6800k is at 4.5 @ 1.302v at the moment, i must say that my first 6800k was a pig and barley hit 4.2 at 1.35v

Are you incapable are having a discussion without having some sort of nerd rage at me ?

Just answer some simple questions , at what point did i condemn the Am4 platform ?

Where did i say that any of this was a known Fact ? am i not allowed to have an opinion about something ?

"So if you don't have any documents to backup the claim YOU MADE,all you are doing is lying through your teeth"

Seriously, don't speak to me like that, It's rude and unnecessary, if you cant keep it polite then just just don't reply to my posts.

tell me about it, runs hot to 65-70c across the cores on a custom loop with EK Evo block + EK 360 rad When Im running AIDA64 stress test.
That's not too bad tbh - I have similar temps when pushing my chip hard on a 360+240 custom loop with 600rpm fans.

Voltage wise what you'll often find is the people with "better" chips run less strenuous stability tests. My 5820K runs 4.5Ghz 1.3v which is fine for gaming and x264 rendering but will instantly crash in P95.

Wow so many people getting flustered over a new cpu launch.

If what you currently already have does the job you want it to, then just keep it until it doesn't.

Pretty simple eh.

Pointless upgrade

As said

Who wants overpriced x99 on the secondhand market when you can just get Ryzen :p

X99 was overpriced and now you want to take even more of a cut ?

Lol
