5D MKIII or 7D??? Please advise

No, there are different levels, you do need 2 qualifying bodies though. You don't need to be a member to get it swapped. It cost the same for everyone. CPS just get your gear back faster and you can loan equipment out (some country) for free.

The screen protectors arrived today and TBH I think they're just fine and can't see where people are getting the negative issues from  In sunlight it's just as viewable as without one as well.

I goofed up installing the main one as I managed to miss a spec of dust and got a finger smudge that I only noticed after applying so will just have to put up with that but other than that I can't see any real issue!

I'm also going to be DIYing an Easy Cam steabicam mount for smooth "flying" camera motion in video footage like this:

https://vimeo.com/3803065

£59 on eBay and add some extra weights via stick on jobbies for the 1.45KG my camera weighs (1.2KG supported).

mrk, are you going to get a hand grip for it? you know the one that stops it falling out of your hand.

Out of curiosity, out of the holy trinity in primes for canon, which is the faster focusing? I know the 35 is raved about, as is the 85, but I seem to remember someone saying the 85 is slow focusing.

There's a reason for me asking, but I'm trying not to jinx myself, so just the facts :D

I think the 1.2 L 50mm is slower yet, so much glass to move around! Also you'll notice it focuses (all in general) slower when held up and faster when held down. Gravity! *shakes fist*.

Also, below 50% battery the buffer rate slows down a bit compared to >50%. It's not as slow as slow shutter mode but it's in between slow and high speed mode.

35 and 135 are fast.

85 is slow.

There is a big reason, due to its design. 35 and 135 focus via moving the rear lens element. 85 moves the front, hence you should always ALWAYS put that hood on. If you knock it at the front, the internal mechanism, ala the gearing will take some of the the hit. So moving that front element around takes some force because it is so heavy so it is slow moving from one extreme to the other. In between the extreme it is fine in actual use.

There is another thing, the 50/1.4 has similar design with the front element moving but when you detach it from the camera, if you turn the focus ring you can still move the element back in place. You can't do that with the 85L. The whole thing is electronic, you need to put it on a camera, put it in MF and then turn the focus ring.

I'm hoping to acquire funding for an upgrade (seems I may have it :)) and I can't make my mind up what lenses to go for. I may just go the whole hog and get the new 24-70, hopefully it'll still be in stock in a week! I could get the 16-35 and save a bundle, but my thinking is that the new lens will be a large IQ leap that compliments the 5dmk3. I've already got the 50mm1.4 from sigma, a 70-200 f4L and the 100mmL, with the Siggy 12-24. It's just the bit in the middle I'm missing, and the 24-70 should fill the gap perfectly and become my walk about lens. If something around 85mm is needed I can always use the 50mm on the 60D. Oh, and Digi rev are doing the new canon flash dirt cheap, so I'll get that too :)

You watch my funding fall through at the last minute...

HDEW are cheaper still :)
It's just damn annoying how long it's taking to get the Triggers out there, so the price of those are about £70 over what they will be when stock settles :(

Where can I get the Sigma 85 1.4? ******* seem to only stock the Sony mount and digirev is 590 compared to the 520 of Pana!

Cool I will order there then cheers!

Their warranty is a "return to HK" rather than local, but they do pay the costs. The also reimburse you if you get caught for import costs, but I haven't as yet...! I think the likes of Digital REV and ******* offering a local warranty is why OSD aren't mentioned so much anymore.
