I know the number dont add up. I play games on it knowing the hardware should be a pile of junk, but i play a lot of arcade games on there. Geometry wars couldnt look any sweeter even if was running at true 4500000 x 20000 res.

at the end of the day a 5870 is like £300, and ****es all over a 6870 which aint right.
New series, should be MUCH better.
Ill bet a lot of people buy these cards without looking at the specs cos they think they know the well grounded system. What theyre really getting is what we'd expect a 6770 to be like, shame on AMD for taking the unwise peoples money!
It's about 10% quicker, the 6870 is the midrange and costs £100 less!
10% 20% 10000% its still quicker.
Guess what, they will be. They aren't out yet.
yeah but they are thats my point - the new 5870 should be the newer better version, its just complicating things.
Well whose fault is that? Ignorance is easily cured by doing a little research, if you're capable of buying and installing a card then you can always Google '6870 review'.
I agree, we obviously do but ill bet the large majority dont. Im not fussed i know what it can do, but most people just wanna buy what looks good and get on with it.

(1) How cheap can you get a xfire board which has TWO x16 lanes?
(2) Are certain cards better for crossfire like the 6870?
(3) I see my GFX card supports Pci Express 2.1, is it worth gettin a board that supports that or is it useless?
wikipedia said:PCI Express 2.1 supports a large proportion of the management, support, and troubleshooting systems planned to be fully implemented in PCI Express 3.0. However, the speed is the same as PCI Express 2.0. Most motherboards sold currently come with PCI Express 2.0 connectors.
Ok guys so i'm guessing im not the only one who saw the recent release of the 5870 and 5850 and thought OMG, why so cheap??
Cant believe what amd have done with the names its retarded. I was going to buy a 5850 for £200 and the 6870 performs about the same (if not worse) but im happy with saving the £30 odd, what a bargain even if it should be twice the power with that name.
Has AMDs choice annoyed anyone else? I feel like ive been lied too...
ANYWAY onto my question... Im building a new PC soon so have a few questions
---------------
Ive never had crossfire or sli before because never saw the sense in spending all that extra money when its more cost effective to just buy single card (pumping the money saved from the mobo AND a second card into one). BUT it sounds fun, and i may want it if you guys can help me into the dual world of money wasting.
(1) How cheap can you get a xfire board which has TWO x16 lanes? To me it seems an awfull waste to buy a £200 card, then to have it running at a half or even quarter of its speed... am i wrong to think like this?
-im looking at getting an Asus M4A785TD-V EVO 785G Socket AM3, looks well cheap for 70 quid but the second port runs at x4 mode.
(2) Are certain cards better for crossfire like the 6870?
(3) I see my GFX card supports Pci Express 2.1, is it worth gettin a board that supports that or is it useless?
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!![]()
Not exactly lied to - but 8xx has been the high end set of cards for several generations now, 7xx mid-range and so on so you can see how people are confused... I can't believe how many people are trying to gloss over it when AMD do it - yet when nVidia did it everyone was up in arms.
How have you been lied to, it was made quite evident that it's the mid range card.
They're good cards, will be a massive upgrade to your current one.
How is it obvious unless you read in in-depth reviews and study the technical details?
You are forgetting most people just buy hardware at price points that they recognize the name.
Actually you could argue that they did this with the HD2900XT - but then with that generation there wasn't really any "mid-range", unless you count the HD2900 Pro as that.
We haven't seen whats gonna happen with the 6770 yet so I wouldn't get too high and mighty on that point.

Why do you post things like the one below then?
Are you another person who can't understand what would happen if AMD (not ATI!) would release these cards as 6750/70 at $179/$239 price points? I can imagine the moaning about it now. You really should stop crapping on AMD Rroff, it's getting boring and annoying.
Rroff, why do say things like this?
AMD didn't take a 5870 and re-badge it a 6870 did they?
Misleading - Yes
Nvidia Style renaming - No
