Re: the E46, this YouTube video demonstrates a 6 speed 330i going round from 3rd to 6th:

At 6000 RPM in 5th he is doing 240 kph. This matches my 5 speed 330i exactly, so the final drive's are presumably very similar (2.93).

That's what I was thinking, but without taking it into account they don't mean a whole lot. Gives an idea of the ratio spacing but not the actual mph figures per 1000rpm.
