7950 Crossfire vs 680 SLI at 5760*1080 (Eyefinity/Surround)

I don't think the "service" is worth £30 more for a reference card.

I notice people saying this a fair amount as if you have all manner of problems unless you buy from Overclockers.

I buy from a few different shops and the service is the same really all round.

Totally agree

Buy from were ever is cheaper most shops customer service is fine I won't pay a penny more

Than I have to and it's not because I'm Scottish :-)

I recorded with FRAPS rather than using the in game FPS readout?

Oh DOF was off as well because I couldn't get it to work with my 680's so turned it off on 7950's as well for a like for like comparison. You also are 100 MHz slower on the core, and 400 MHz slower on the memory effective speed. It's impossible to compare with these variances.

Your readings do seen very low for no AA which is the the killer at that resolution.

I think AAA on Metro is not the same as NO AA. But anyway, I get 40 FPS on VH + 4xAA, vs my 55 at High, which is roughly the same ratio is yours - they are both just about 60% what you get.

There does seem to be something wrong at my end. I've done the benches again, and at High preset, the GPU usage wobbles between 50-80%, and at very high with 4xAA, it wobbles between 80-90, but drops lower every now and then. In other games (including JC2, Crysis and Crysis 2) it stays up at 97-99% throughout.

I don't know what would cause this.

Is this in Metro? mine to, 80 to 98% i have very high preset, 4x MSAA, 16x AF and advanced Physx, my usual FPS are 35 to 45. perfectly acceptable but the GPU is not always maxed, as i say sometimes its as low as 80%.

I think its a CPU bottleneck.

This is what I get at 1080p on the Metro Bench with everything at very high and 4xmsaa. Cards at stock 800/1250 cpu @ 4.5ghz.

No idea if it's any good or not tbh...

Average Framerate: 86.00
Max. Framerate: 222.47
Min. Framerate: 13.49

Well, my low FPS are just as smooth as my high FPS which are all supper smooth.

I have run Nvidia, built Nvidia GPU based systems for others and the 'smoothness' is no different to me from one colour to the other.

there is a difference in BF3 for me with 12.11 driver vs an older one.
at my resolution 5040x1050 and single card.
Dont play Bf3 nowadays but loaded it to check fps and it did increase and there is a visual difference also.

in planetside 2 beta I havent notice one though.
likely gameengine dependent.

+1

He needs the cpu to run faster than stock.

Yup :)

Its the same difference for me, its because the FPS are up a lot.

+1 to the graphical difference, the colour seems to be less washed out, its now a bit more like it is with FXAA Injector

I'd agree, except I've pushed the CPU up to 4.2GHz and repeated, and see only very marginal improvement.

Under the same settings as you (except advanced Physx unchecked), it does look like I'm seeing 80-95% CPU usage. Its funny, at the beginning of the bench, GPU usage and frame rates are both at their highest, then both drop after a few seconds, and stay at their low point till the final 1/4 of the bech and both climb. It drops down to about 30fps, but at the beginning and end is at 90-100.

It's like something is limiting my rates for most of the bench. I keep wondering it's something to do with vsync somehow (which is off as far as I can tell), because on the high present, it hovers around 60-63 for a lot of the time.

It's a lot better than mine. Just run it, and I get average 55, min 10, max 135.
and GPU usage stays down in 40-60%. Again, raising CPU from stock to 4.2GHz changes it only by a couple of frames.

Maybe a driver issue? I've moved metro onto my SSD, to eliminate hard disk problems - no change.

I have exactly the same thing, there seems to be a lot of CPU usage in the middle of the bench which is almost grinding it to a halt.

Its not vSync as Metro 2033 does not have it, i set (force vSync unless application specifies otherwise) in CCC and its still not Syncing, next i will run it as (Always on) in CCC to see what happens.
