7950 Crossfire vs 680 SLI at 5760*1080 (Eyefinity/Surround)

Can I ask all you AMD users with multiple screens, if you have a game that benefit from (or even doesn't work with) 3 monitors and choose the other option (extended desktop?) can you play games in 1080p on the middle monitor?
If so, what happens to the other screens, do they go blank or do they keep displaying Windows while you game?

When running a game single screen on mine the other screens still show windows as normal. My youngest doesn't like gaming on 3 (weirdo!) so has the game on the middle screen, Skype on the left screen and the internet on the right hand one. Obviously to click on one of the others usually minimises the game, but so long as they're just running in the "background" they're perfectly usable.

That's what I wanted to know. As I think Rusty said in this thread switching between the 2 with Nvidia is a pain, but I don't like all games surround. SWTOR seemed nasty when I tried it, major stretching. Speaking of which, I assume that's no different with AMD stuff?

For my eyefinity setup I have to use Widescreen Fixer to get the wider resolution in MW3, ie 48:10 instead of the 16:10 in the ingame options. The look is then correct as per any other game supporting multiple screens (BF3 and Arma2 the only other games I play).

Running in windowed mode in BF3 I sometimes use only half the width of the side screens (along with the centre monitor) and run other apps at the sides so they are visible and I can keep tabs on temps of the GPU and CPU cores. BF3 seems to auto adjust the screen ratios to compensate so you could have whatever size of playing area you want and not worry about stretching.

That's cool, I take it AMD have eliminated the issue where Crossfire doesn't work when games are windowed?

'vSync always on' stops screen tearing, but that's it.

Ok, GPU @ 1200 / 1500 (Physx off)

There seems to be a CPU bottleneck at the lower settings, but not the higher setting.

Tomorrow i'm going to run it again, but this time with CPU cores monitoring in game.

Thank you humbug, that's brilliant.
It does seem to confirm that the issue I'm dealing with isn't due to running CPU at stock.

How do you monitor CPU while in game?

I think at the weekend I'm going to install windows on a separate drive, just a bare install, latest drivers for everything needed, a new steam install with just metro, and see what happens. It could be something in my current software setup affecting it.

Tommy you genius!

Gonna have to try this.

Combine our knowledge and greg would cease to exist! ;)

:)

It does work, just checked.

That's what I used to monitor the vrms matt.

The only downside to the app is, you need to press 'sensors'>'minimise all' for it to kick in on every startup-although I haven't spent much time looking if it can start as default.

I wonder what else i could get on my OSD? Maybe the time in Hong Kong or something.

A countdown to 'sexy time' would get my vote!:D

When I overvolted mine, they would get to around 1200+ watts.

I'll have to update my sig as Tri Sli is no more,
had to RMA one and the one I got back didn't
have Evbot on so I got a refund.

Thanks ,picked my cables up last week.
Along with a Matrix 7970 to try.

Now if I could only work out how Eyefinity works

I almost got myself one of those Matrix 7970 cards. They look very special and could be a lot of fun to bench.

It took a lot of willpower to resist the temptation to order one.
