****7950 (disabled) BOOST BIOS THREAD****

I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS, ALL CREDIT GOES TO kahboom from Overclock.net!

After a long research on various forums there's finally a way to get round annoying BOOST function which made your Overclocking unstable, kept constant 1.25v and the jumps underload which caused big FPS drops. This BIOS modded by kahboom from Overclock.net Forum disables the annoying BOOST function which allows you to have lower voltage's with higher clocks, there are 4 profiles with clocks 1Ghz+ and the good thing with this BIOS is it works like an update for your factory BIOS so you don't have to do anything accept from flashing. So what are the real advantages of this BIOS?
- Lower voltage in idle and load
- Lower temperatures with higher clocks
- No annoying FPS drops during gaming
- 50+ power and raised 1.30v voltage limit
- No need of running overclocking tools as you have 4 profiles with different clocks 1Ghz+ to choose from.

****kahboom official thread****

NOTE: If you card is not on the list and you would like to have an modded BIOS, you can kindly ask kahboom on overclock.net forum to make you a modded BIOS. You can also visit kahboom's thread for further explanation & info.

Thanks IC3 I'm going to try this. However what is the default voltage of the bios? I know your cards asic is 79% but mine are in the mid 60's so i require a bit more voltage than you.

I asked kahboom, waiting for reply.
But it says 1.180v so it should be enough for yours as well but let me just check with him to be 100% sure ;)

Yeah i checked the content looks like it'll be fine as i can run 975 core at 1.125v. Not tried for higher yet.

"HIS ICE-Q Boost HD 7950 Boost Edition, 1070core 1500memory, Voltage between 1.098v to 1.180v depending on ASIC, 50% powertune, Boost function disabled. Additional profiles added."

I run the 1070/1500 profile and tested it on BF3 64 map, Metro 2033 and 3dmark 11. With no problems...
Good luck with flashing ;)

EDIT:

kahboom said that this modded BIOS works like an update for your current BIOS. So me thinking logicly is that the BIOS will recognises your ASIC and set the voltage automatically.

Bios flashed and working A ok. Need to test some games but everything has gone smoothly. I wonder if this fixes the TDP issue, so that you don't need more than 20% power control now? I suppose it must do with the super high boost voltage taken out. This is a big discovery for AMD Boost users, drink it in folks.

For the BIOS to work properly you don't have to run any Overclocking tools.
This BIOS works as it was a non boost.

A small cut out from the conversation on PM

"Plus your card runs stock at 1.25v as i see no matter what you had put. I have lowered to 1.18v and want you to try these, don't worry im making another one after this, but it seems to have worked well with boost cards. By making the card think this is the stock profile it manages to throttle under load and use the power savings feature that it is supposed to use, lowering temps under load, while gaming, and every day task. 1-2% loss in fps vs using an overclock tool and forcing voltage but, 4-6c lower temps, correcting check sum and zipping now."

The voltage could probably be brought down to 1.175v i reckon. But i guess the voltage chosen is on the safe side.

Just gave the card a Sleeping Dogs burn in test and passed with flying colours. I chose the bios that had 1070/1500 as stock clocks. According to his tool and afterburner overlay voltage is 1.188v.

The man from del monti says yes.

The voltage (provided the VRM table was fully edited) should scale depending on ASIC.

In other words, stock voltage should still change based on ASIC value.

LtMatt, What do you mean by "flying colours"? Artifacts?

Exactly

Ok, finally a BIOS that shows what the card can do. I will get round overclocking tomorrow to see how the BIOS behaves when you overclock to 1200/1600 or similiar. :D

Yeah nice one.

It will be the moment of truth tomorrow as a brand new his 7950 ice-q arrives. Will see what the asic is on that one. I bet you pg tips life savings the asic is between 60-69.9%. Hopefully that will accept the new bios and then its happy days.

Yep, make sure to report back on what temps and OC you get. ;)
Who knows? You might be lucky and get a card with higher ASIC

I'd probably rather have two similar Asic cards tbh. Also the faulty one im sending back is a demon clocker but has the lowest asic of them all at 64%. That did 1200 core on stock voltage and it had plenty more in it.

Just tested my 67% asic one and sadly the bios change has not improved its overclock ability. Its good for about 1150-1175 on the core with the stock cooler. If i want to clock it higher and keep artifacts away it would need an accelero or water cooling.

LtMatt, Same here I could probably do 1225/1625 as at 1200/1600 while I had BOOST bios that was the max. Accelero is a very good cooler and it's so tempting but currently OCUK sadly don't have them in stock.
Watercooling whole system was something I wanted to do with my current build, but the costs are too big...

EDIT:

anyone had any issues with the memory clocks on these bios's? not tried clocking mine yes so still @1250, 1400 seems like it could be quite a bump.

There are 4 profiles with different clocks.

Thanks IC3, what's the flashers choice for this bios, AtiFlash or Winflash?

On my failed quest for a decent bios to combat the boost, some bios would only flash on one and some on the other.

Atiflash all day long tommy, never flash in windows.

http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2230/atiflash-4-07/

You will need to force the flash or it won't work so type

GPU1
atiflash -f -p 0 biosname.rom

GPU2
atiflash -f -p 1 biosname.rom
