****7950 (disabled) BOOST BIOS thread****

Kaboom has just done me a BIOS for my card, noticed in the readme it has:

"MSI1070.rom 1070core 1500memory Msi Boost 1070 pic voltage table

Unc1500.rom 1150core 1500memory Msi Boost 1150 pic voltage table/ Recommended Water cooling

Unc1550.rom 1200core 1550memory Extreme Boost pic voltage table/ Recommended Water cooling

Unc1260.rom 1200core 1600memory Unc1260 1200core 1600memory pic voltage table/ Recommended Water cooling"

So i should only use the MSI1070.rom, as i dont have my cards water cooled?, also Boost is disabled, why is boost disabled??

I basically just wanted a BIOS that gives me low voltages, im happy with stock settings elsewhere

Boost is disabled as it has a nasty habit of doing this:

You can run 1150 core on air quite easily. Mine is at 1140 and I've never had any temperature issues.

Ok so all I need to do is flash that rom and I'm good to go, or do I need to do tweaking after. Is the 1150 rom at a locked voltage then, if so is it lower than the default bios?.

Just flash the card and it will come up with the clocks as it is changed in the BIOS so you don't have to run any overclocking tools. You should be more then fine with 1140/1500 clocks as you have the gelid cooler ;)
Also BOOST didn't allow you to change the voltage as it kept constant 1.25v and as tommy showed the screenshot the terriable jumps in performance...

Could a moderater change the title to *****7950 (disabled) BOOST bios thread****

Thanks

Flashed my card last night and really pleased with the results. I'm running the MSI 7950 TFIII BE and went for the 1070/1500 BIOS. Now I'm getting a voltage of 1.181v according to Trixx. My ASIC is 67.7 so this is about what I was expecting.

Much better. :)

I've pushed the core speed a bit further and managed a (seemingly) stable 1125MHz on the same voltage. Pretty good considering the max I could hit was 1140MHz @1.25v using the boost BIOS.

So just confirm, is the voltage locked with this new BIOS?

Good to hear :)
The voltage is not locked you can change the voltage right up to 1.30v (I would recommend not going above 1.25v on air) you also have the 50+ power limit raised for better OC stability etc. What sort of temps are you getting?

I'm using the HIS 7950 IceQ [disabled] Boost BIOS with 1070/1500 lower voltage. My card ASIC is 79.8% and the voltage I see in OVerclocking tools when I press reset is 1.115v and GPU-Z or Trixx shows my voltage as 1.098-1.1v. The temps didn't go above 64c with fan fixed at 60%
So if you card is higher ASIC you could probably lower the voltage down a bit.

With the default fan profile (on air) I'm hitting 70 degrees max in Valley on Extreme HD. I usually run a custom profile that is a bit more aggressive so those temps are quite comfortable.

I might try a voltage bump to see if I can hit 1150 but if it's a big bump then it's probably not worth it. 1125 is a pretty good overclock and 1.181v is much better than 1.25v.

Since flashing with the MSI1070.rom Kaboom did for me, 5-6 times today my display has gone completely grey and locked up the PC and need to be reset, no BSOD though. Happens when either watching youtube or videos, any ideas?

Same happened to me after a couple of minutes in BO2 with Matt's bios. But then I think that one has too high speed memory for my cards. Dropped it down to 1450 in AB and its been fine since. Crap memory :(

What I have found compare to the Gigabyte 7970 bios is the fan profile isn't aggressive enough for me with these modded ones so have to override with a custom setup - the giga bios was perfect as it was!

Well i picked the lowest core clock bios from the 3 that Kaboom gave me, 1070core 1500memory, so im not sure what to do now. Is the Gigabyte BIOS compatable with the 7950's then??....might give that a go if so as i too would like more aggressive fan speeds

lettuce, MSI AB for monitoring is absolutley fine.
skyjawa, Use the BIOS given in the thread here or kahboom's thread. The BIOS you used was specially made for Matt...
Again if you have problems with the BIOS please write to kahboom, hes a human as well and we all sometimes make mistakes. There might be a small mistake in the code, PM him and explain the problem. That's why I said to do some testing to say that the BIOS works 100% correctly without any issues.
Remember about making a backup of your stock BIOS and flashing BIOS update meant for your card!

Yeah, I've since moved on to the other low volts bios you posted. Currently have it running at 1020 and 1450 seems ok, haven't tried it at the stock settings in game yet. Every time I've tried to push my memory over 1500 though I get issues in game but it will bench at 1600, no matter what bios.

lettuce - the gigabyte 7970 bios works with some cards, mine were fine but others had issues. Also disables the HDMI socket.

He has MSI 7950 OC BE, not HIS. That BIOS didn't work for me or either LtMatt, some other users said that it didn't work for them either.
If you are having problem with the lower voltage BIOS download the normal BIOS and theres a profile with 1000/1400 clocks.

lettuce, write back to kahboom tell him your problem and he will fix it. Some BIOSes are different from the other, I tested the BIOS I'm currently using and there were 2 small mistakes which were fixed in no time

Hi all,
I will try to explain my experience with his iceq boost card :)
I've tried both the low volt and normal bios, all seems ok, i find that the low voltage one suit well with my GC but he temp went hot (84°) when gaming (speciali with far cry 3), so I dicide to downclock the card and lowerd a bit more the Volt.

With the original bios in AF I could reach 1000 mhz and 1350 for the memory with 1.03 volt il AF with force constant voltage on and boost alway on (70° max in Far cry 3)

with the low profil non boost bios (1070,1500) vdcc in gpuz around :1.1v max 1.15v temp in far cry 3 reach 85..
I downgrade the voltage to something like 1.05v in AF, the clock to 1050 and memory to 1400 gpu z show vdcc around 1.02 max temp are ok at 72 max with FC3
So AF seems working with this bios and could lowered voltage (I've try with trixx with the same result).
But gpu z repport something strange.... random VDCC pike at 1.48V !!
Could it be possible?

1. Original Boost BIOS voltage was constant 1.25v no matter what you did...
2. Use latest Trixx to change the actual voltage and you shouldn't see any voltage jumps, it is also recomended that you reinstall your drivers fully.
3. I would also recomend installing only 1 overclocking software as in my experiance when I had installed MSI AB + HIS Iturbo or MSI AB + Trixx or HIS Iturbo + Trixx it didn't work proprley...
4. Set the fan to be more aggresive as the clocks are much higher then before, from what you are saying is that your card is lower ASIC and lower ASIC GPU's like higher volts.

I had some strange problems with GPU-Z that's why I use HAiNFO64 which tells me the lowest, avrage and highest temps, volts etc. Remember that FC3 is very badly optimized and I get similiar temps 66-69c 1070/1500 1.115v ASIC 79.8% - using lower voltage BIOS. Check with GPU-Z your ASIC, what about other games such as BF3 or Hitman etc?
